Trust Me—These Lipstick Colors Will Be Everywhere This Autumn

When I say that my excitement for autumn knows no bounds, I’m not exaggerating. My stomach practically does summersaults thinking about cozy knitwear, festive drinks, and—my favorite of all—fall makeup looks. Specifically when it comes to lipstick. My go-to makeup look in the colder months is usually a browny-orange shadow on the eyes with something shimmery on top, a simple sweep of highlighter across my cheekbones, and a dark lip to finish it all off. Whether it’s a vampy red or a deep berry tone, it’s probably already in my lipstick collection—and that collection really comes into its own during the autumn months.

And I’m not alone in my love of seasonal lipsticks. Most of the makeup brands that I swear by offer up a plethora of fall lipstick options for my favorite season. From sheers to mattes, there really is something for everybody, and I have a list of recommendations to prove it. At first glance, it’s easy to think that these shades might not be for you, especially if you don’t naturally gravitate towards bold lipstick colors. But trust me—these shades are surprisingly wearable.

So while it was difficult to condense my list of recommendations (I am truly obsessed with lipstick), I’ve come up with a comprehensive list of the 13 best autumn lipstick colors that I recommend to everyone. Keep scrolling to see which ones made the cut.

Pillow Talk Medium is the ultimate warm berry-pink shade that I swear by. The original Pillow Talk is the OG that everyone knows and loves, but I truly think that this shade should be a go-to for people with tan to dark skin tones. Whilst this is a matte formula, it feels so creamy on the lips, which Charlotte Tilbury does best with several of her lipsticks.

I remember seeing this shade all over Instagram and debating whether my purchase could be justified (which lasted all of five minutes), and thankfully, my decision was a good one. This is the perfect berry matte shade that doesn’t look patchy and looks great whether using with or without lip liner.

This blushed berry-rose shade is a newbie to my collection but has already gotten so much use. Apply a simple swipe for an effortless and long-lasting look.

Months on and I’m still not over how great Nyx’s Shine Loud glosses are. Boundary Pusher is definitely my favorite shade. It’s a lightweight and non-sticky pinky-brown with a shine gloss on the end that doesn’t budge.

MAC never misses a trick with its incredible lipstick shades and formulas. This brownish-red adds the perfect pop of color to any look. MAC has also recently released a limited-edition design created by the incredible Dominic Skinner, global senior artist at MAC.

This highly pigmented lipstick is a vegan formula that glides on silky-smooth to unveil a gorgeous pinky tone.

If you’re looking for a hint of color to add to your lips this fall, then this blotted option is a must-have. It gives a hydrating, blurred effect to any look.

This deep-berry shade from Lime Crime offers a powerful and confident look to the lips. Once applied to the lips, it dries down to a velvety matte finish.

Just because autumn is around the corner, it doesn’t mean it’s time to say goodbye to glosses. Glossy London offers a number of universally flattering glosses that feel super luxurious on the lips. Blessed is the perfect mocha brown that you won’t be able to put down.

If you prefer something more hydrating on your lips during the colder months, By Terry’s Hydra-Balms are infused with hyaluronic acid, which will leave your lips feeling moisturized with the perfect pop of color.

Dare is a rich burgundy with a matte finish. Sleek’s True Colour Lipstick shades are infused with vitamin E for added hydration.

Nyx’s soft matte lip creams have been a go-to within my lipstick collection for years and never fail to amaze me. One of my favorite shades for autumn is Transylvania, a true dark burgundy with a long-lasting finish that can easily take your makeup look from day to night.

Ember is a deep mauve that applies like butter to the lips for a sheeny gloss finish. It’s super hydrating and non-sticky. Apply it as a subtle lip tint or build it up for a color that pops.
