I’m a Former Nordstrom Buyer, and I’m Wearing These 7 Items After Visiting L.A

Susie Wright’s shopping and style tips are always of interest. After all, she’s an experienced fashion professional that clearly knows her stuff with her work as a stylist and blogger (her site is So Susie) and her previous role as a Nordstrom buyer. While she calls Portland home, she often heads down to Los Angeles when she’s looking for fresh sartorial inspiration. She actually just got back from one of her trips, so we wanted to get a sense of what inspired her.

“I love going to L.A., and always come back with lots of great inspo,” she said. “Since it’s only a quick two-hour flight, it’s easy for me to go several times a year for trend shopping, people watching for street style, and, of course, eating at all the fun new spots.” On that note, Wright shared with us the specific items she’s wearing even more of or is starting to wear after being influenced by that effortless California aesthetic. For reference, the pieces in question are all chic and easy to style.

“Longer coats worn with matching sets or simple tees, hoodies, and denim are so cool. The styling options are endless, and they definitely make a statement.”

“Faux-leather is a trend I hope never fades away. Everyone is wearing it and so many of the cool pieces are also affordable! Elevate your outfit effortlessly with just this one piece.”

“Always easy and perfect for L.A.’s casual lifestyle. I love styling knit dresses with sneakers on the weekend, but also dressing them up a bit for work. There are so many choices right now. Look for ones that aren’t too bulky so you can easily throw on a jacket.”

“A tailored blazer is a classic, and it works perfectly with denim and sneakers. You can also dress it up for work and dinner (and post-dinner drinks).”

“Sneakers of all kinds were everywhere, and I’m looking for a clean white retro pair next.”

“Talk about a versatile piece! Style this cardigan buttoned with pretty jewelry and high-rise denim or layer a tee under it. This is a trend that will easily go into next year.”

“Pretty blouses are the perfect going-out tops to pair with denim. They’re dressier than a tee, but still casual and comfortable. I always think black blouses work magic, but so do special print ones that catch your eye.”
