I would like to say that I treat my hair really well, but in reality, I’m not sure if that’s necessarily true. Between recently dyeing it darker and heat styling it fairly regularly, I definitely put my hair through the wringer sometimes. I have really thick hair that’s prone to frizz and flyaways, and I’m always looking for products that keep it both healthy and under control.
Enter Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil. I’ll be honest. I’m not typically one for hair oils. In my experience, many oils leave my hair looking greasy instead of glossy. Olaplex’s oil, however, promises to be almost weightless and reparative to hair. “It’s formulated to dramatically increase the hair’s overall shine, minimize frizz, and provide UV protection and thermal protection up to 450ºF,” says celebrity hair colorist Bianca Hillier. “This makes for the perfect addition to your routine if you regularly curl, flat-iron, or blow-dry style your hair. Plus, since it’s such a lightweight formula, you can even use this on your non-washing days.”
After talking to Hillier, I was immediately intrigued, and I knew I had to try the oil for myself. I’ve always been a fan of Olaplex products, so I had high hopes for the Bonding Oil, and I was not disappointed. As you can see below, left to its own devices, my hair is flyaway central, but the Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil made it smooth, bouncy, and shiny.
Smooth this oil on before you plan to style your hair. “It can be used on wet or dry hair before styling,” says Hillier. “Apply by tapping the bottom of the bottle upside down and dispersing a few drops to the palms of your hands and work through the hair. Focus mainly on the mids and tips. Distribute the remaining product through to the root area. Brush out to ensure the hair is evenly saturated.”
Keep in mind that a little goes a long way. I have a lot of hair, but I would still only use about a dime-size amount of the oil from root to tip.
