A Live-Action Fan Film Of The '90s Cartoon “Recess” Is In The Works — Here's What We Know

If you were a ’90s kid, you definitely remember the Disney cartoon series Recess.

Disney

Recess aired from 1997-2001.

The show revolved around six fourth graders named T.J., Vince, Gretchen, Spinelli, Gus, and Mikey, and all the important lessons they learned while attending Third Street Elementary School.

The students often came face to face with their problems at recess, hence the title of the series.

Now, the show is getting a live-action remake thanks to Vancouver filmmakers Jerome Yoo and Kent Donguines.

If funded, the non-profit film will be released for free in August and will show what the former kids from Third Street Elementary are getting into as teenagers in high school.

Suddenly I feel happy…and old AF.

According to the description, the reboot will be a “live-action, re-imagining of the gang in a high school setting tackling current issues like love, peer pressure, social media, identity, etc.”

As far as casting goes, Benjamin Wadsworth has been tapped to star as T.J., while Sean Depner will play Mikey. Louriza Tronco will play Spinelli, Adam DiMarco (The Order) will play Randall, Lillian Doucet-Roche will play Gretchen, Fritzy-Klevans Destine (Batwoman) will star as Vince, and Clive Holloway as Gus.

Sydney Scotia, Kelcey Mawema, and Emilija Baranac (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) rounds out the live cast as The Ashleys. The gang’s all here!

Also, it’s important to note, the live-action remake has not been endorsed by Disney, yet my excitement remains the same.

I can’t wait to see my six faves, as well as mean girls (aka The Ashleys)…

..who were known for their catchphrase!

Not to mention Miss Grotke, the teacher who was cool AF…

…and the annoying teacher’s pet.

I still don’t like you, Randall. 😒

And of course, there was the king of the playground.

The coveted title was later passed down to T.J. after King Bob graduated.

But mostly I just need to see THE (!) iconic Spinelli.

She was the take-no-shit feminist we didn’t know we needed, TBH.

Tell us how you feel about this latest remake news in the comments!
