We’re Early Adopters—Here Are the 9 Trends We’re Ordering ASAP in 2022

Right now, I’m soaking in the sartorial newness of 2022 and looking forward to what’s on the horizon. The S/S 22 collections are dropping at retailers, couture fashion week is unfolding in Paris, and the F/W 22 shows are already starting to be released even before fashion month has kicked off. All in all, there are so many beautiful fashion things to feast your eyes on for the year ahead.

While there are plenty of cool upcoming trends to digest, I’ve been curious to get an early look at which ones will take off—so I went straight to the source and asked some of my favorite fashion insiders to weigh in about the eye-catching trends that are already landing in their closets. Whether trends are newly on the market from the S/S 22 runway shows or looking all the way ahead to F/W 22 collections that are just starting to debut, prepare to see these new trends go viral in 2022. Ahead, nine trends to commit to memory—starting with the one I’m ordering ASAP.

On the S/S 22 runways, designers offered up fresh ways to style vacation wear, whether you’re OOO or not, and I’m very much on board. I’ve never been more ready to book a getaway and neither has my wardrobe.

“The trend that I am implementing straight away is color! I am ready to indulge my eyes in beautiful shades and mixtures of colors like the most recent The Row collection. After the pandemic, a little color in our clothes will be great for all of us!”—TyLynn Nguyen, creative consultant

“I’ve always been a miniskirt girl, so I was excited to see them come back in a figuratively big but literally tiny way for S/S 22. Let’s just say I need them all.”—Nicole Eshaghpour, senior market editor, Who What Wear

“Cutouts, sheer fabric, high slits, corsets—small sexy details but make it chic. Will dive into this more and more, embracing femininity and the curves of the woman body in an effortless way.”—Débora Rosa, creative and fashion consultant

“The trend that I hate that I am loving is the lower rise trousers. I still love my high-waisted pieces (and will continue to wear them) but have been screenshotting so many looks with a lower waistline. Mostly, I am looking forward to a more slouchy, lower rise trouser with bodysuit and an oversized blazer. I don’t think the low-rise trend means you have to show your tummy—I think it is just another exciting proportion to explore! I loved the amazing looks at Miu Miu and even the lower-slung denim at Celine was really speaking to me. I think there are ways to make it feel elegant and refined!”—Allison Bornstein, stylist

“When it comes to this year’s upcoming trends, I am trying to scale back on something particular but really focus on the less-is-more concept, investing in great pieces or minimal colors to have pieces be timeless and seasonless. I always strive to keep it simple and effortless. The only thing I have been investing in are basics and timeless pieces, which I can style in endless ways.”—Claire Rose Cliteur, creative consultant

“I think that ’70s printed jumpsuits will be strong this year. I personally just need colors and prints after these two years and really want to have fun with my clothes. I also love a printed silk shirt—very ’70s chic also. A vintage YSL moment. Paired with long necklaces for a feminine but strong look.”—Jen Azoulay, founder and creative director, Jen Wonders Studio

“I can’t get enough of platforms right now, with my only issue being which pair to invest in!”—Eshaghpour

“Cool, crisp shirting, loose pants, and lightweight blazers are always a good idea. This one is me 100% and this season will be on full power.”—Rosa
