Between the four of us Who What Wear editors, we’ve seen (and owned and tried) a lot of little black dresses in our day. And as you’re probably aware, not all are created equal. Far from it. And for the most part, there’s only one way to wear them. But that’s not the case for the subject of this particular try-on story.
One of the most recent arrivals for our clothing line, Who What Wear Collection, is a black knit dress coined the Bri Dress. Unlike other multi-way fashion items, it’s quite simple to reconfigure. The turtleneck collar and bottom panel on the long-sleeve dress are detachable, which means that you can wear it as a minidress, a turtleneck minidress, a midi dress, or a turtleneck midi dress, just by fastening or unfastening a few buttons. When the buttons are fastened, the effect is a cool peekaboo look, and when they’re unfastened, the effect is a modern scalloped edge. We’re fans of both.

We each tried the dress in each of the four ways to wear it, and by the end of our experiment, it’s safe to say that we’re all obsessed with it.

“Cutouts have been one of my favorite trends for the past few seasons, so when our editors first got a sneak peek of Who What Wear Collection’s Bri dress, I was crying, shaking, throwing up. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but everything about this dress is perfection. Not only does it have a cozy ribbed material, but it also shows just the right amount of skin for any situation. After all, what other black dress can go from a full knit dress to a sultry mini a hot second? It’s giving a whole new meaning to versatility. But possibly the best thing bout this dress, besides the fact it’s the best-fitting WWWC piece I own to date, is how fun it really is. It’s rare to find a dress that makes me want to shoot it multiple ways all over my apartment, yet this dress had me doing the most. It’s safe to say my initial reaction to this dress was well-founded, as it’s one of the best pieces I’ve been able to add to my closet in a long time.”
“I’ve always loved a little black dress. I mean, who doesn’t? But this convertible Who What Wear Collection dress is 10 steps above the many LBDs that I’ve tried. Really, it’s four dresses in one, all of which are chic, classic, and, most importantly, comfortable. I love the ribbed fabric because it allows for the dress to be worn in even the most casual of settings but also makes it super simple to dress up. Add a pair of boots or strappy heels, black sunglasses, and a shoulder bag, and you’ll be good to go for any occasion.”
“This dress is an absolute STUNNER, plain and simple. I didn’t know I needed a convertible dress in my life until this gorgeous little thing slid onto the scene. It’s soft, comfy, and just the right length no matter which way you wear it. It also looks great with a pair of boots or a little pair of Zara heeled sandals. “I usually avoid fitted dresses, but I wasn’t too intimidated by this one since it’s black. I’m so glad I tried it because the fit is honestly so good—just formfitting enough. I’m on the short side, so I liked that there was the option of making it a mini. My favorite way to wear it was the mini length with the turtleneck attached, but I loved them all. Each iteration really does look like a completely different dress. At $155, talk about bang for your buck.”
