We Live in L.A. and Wear Jeans Most Days—These Items Work Best With Them

Los Angeles–based fashion influencers Melissa Meyers and Janet Gunn are always down to share their styling tips with us for a bit of inspiration. You may remember this piece on 2022 trends and another on easy trends to try. Given that they live in L.A. (although, Meyers also goes back and forth to NYC), they often rely on low-key items to complete their chic yet laid-back vibes. And yes, that includes those trusty jeans.

Below, Meyers and Gunn are highlighting some of the items they think work best with their favorite denim cuts. While the pieces in question could certainly work with a range of items, they think the specific staples in this edit look especially chic with jeans.

On Meyers: Boyish jeans; Gucci top; Zara blazer; Strathberry bag; Gianvito Rossi pumps; Vintage Judith Leiber belt. “One of my basic go-to denim looks is wearing loose-fitting jeans in a medium wash with a fitted top for balance. I like to pair this look with classic pumps and a bag when heading out on the town. Add an oversized faux-leather blazer, and accessorize with a fancy belt to level it up.” — Meyers

On Gunn: Zara jeans; Dice Kayek top; Dior bag; Amina Muaddi heels; Wolford socks; Fendi sunglasses. “I live in denim, and one of my favorite looks is wearing upscale shoes and a forward top. It’s a great way to turn your denim fashion into a playful and upscale vibe. I’m a fan of hosiery, and these socks can feel like something your grandfather would do, but it actually turns out to be a real fashion-forward trend. Socks are definitely having their moment right now.” — Gunn

On Meyers: Oliver Logan jeans; LBLC the Label sweater; Big Yacht belt; Polène bag; Zara boots. “Monochromatic dressing is a favorite look of mine, whether it’s denim on denim or all shades of neutrals. I styled these sustainable jeans by half-tucking a chunky sweater to accentuate my waistline. I like to elevate the look with a great classic belt with gold hardware details. Bag and boots are shades of caramel and taupe.” — Meyers

On Gunn: Frame jeans; Wsly tank; Mango coat; Chanel scarf and shoes; Strathberry bag; Look Optic glasses. “These barreI jeans from Frame are super flattering because they elongate the legs. There’s also extra room in the hips and thighs because they’re so high-waisted. A way to balance out the ‘oversize’ look is to choose a tighter top with a belt to accentuate your waist, and add a flowy scarf.” — Gunn

On Meyers: Boyish jeans; Equipment shirt; LBLC the Label coat; Nanushka bag; Gianvito Rossi boots; Vintage Bottega Veneta scarf. “Dark denim is having a moment. I like to pair mine with a timeless white silk top and wear them from day tonight. Adding an oversize coat is modern and fresh!” — Meyers

On Gunn: Frame jeans; Elaine Kim top; Angela Scott oxfords; Chanel bag and necklace; Big Yacht belt. On Meyers: Oliver Logan jeans; Michael Stars tee; Polène bag; Zara blazer; Jill Heller jewelry. “Street chic is my everyday style. What I love about this ongoing trend is that it’s ageless and here to stay. These wide-leg cropped jeans from Frame are crisp and accentuate the waist.” — Gunn. “Black straight-leg denim—this is another wash that looks great paired with a simple T-shirt and an oversize plaid blazer and boots. I’m wearing white boots and a bag to modernize the look, plus a chunky vintage pearl necklace.” — Meyers
