These Trending Autumn Haircuts Will Be the Most-Requested in Salons This Season

I know the weather might still be warm, but I am so ready for autumn. I love a change of season as to me, it feels like an opportunity for a fresh start, and one thing I always like to do is treat myself to a new haircut. I don’t know about you, but my Instagram and TikTok are awash with new autumn hair colours and hairstyle ideas, and if I’m being totally honest, I’m a little stuck on what to go for.

I know I’m not quite ready to go all out and get a bob hairstyle, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not up for a slightly smaller change. So, I decided to reach out to none other than hair stylist and founder of Arkive Headcare, Adam Reed, to find out what the trendiest autumn haircuts will be. Luckily for me, Reed shared all the info I could ever need, and I’m no longer stuck for inspiration.

If you want to know what hairstyles are going to be big this autumn, or you simply want some new inspo pics to take on your next trip the salon, then I recommend you keep on scrolling for some seriously cool cuts. There’s a range of styles to suit all hair types, so go ahead, book that well-deserved appointment and treat yourself to a new look. I’ve already called my hairdresser…

First up, say hello to the ‘chin skin bob’. “This is a real classic,” says Reed. “It’s a return of the nice, glossy, healthy bob. It’s normally all one length and any hair type can wear it. It presents itself best when it’s really square.”

I love that this bob suits both straight or curly hair, and I expect that we will be seeing this style everywhere thanks the sophisticated finish.

To get that glossy, shiny finish, try using a shine spray like this one from Moroccanoil.

For all the cool girls out there, the ‘hush cut’ is for you. “This haircut was created in Korea,” explains Reed. “It’s a really soft, feathery haircut. It’s a much softer take on the shag but it’s still within the same family. You can make it work on all hair types because the structure of the haircut is so soft. My recommendation is you have it done twice and then have it all sharpened up again so that it never gets too wispy.”

Although this cut looks amazing on long hair, I also think that it gives shorter hair lots of dimension.

A styling cream will help to keep your ‘hush cut’ in place. This one also tames flyaways and protects from heat.

90s supermodel volume is something I have been desperately trying to recreate lately. “This haircut is all about keeping a really strong outline, then adding quite a few squarer cut layers within the interior so that it sits with lots of volume,” says Reed.

If you do decide to go for this haircut, then I would definitely recommend investing in some rollers or a tool like the Dyson Airwrap to get that ‘just left the salon’ look at home.

Mousse is essential if you want serious volume, and this one from Arkive won’t leave your hair feeling crunchy.

Fringes never go out of style, but this autumn it’s all about the ‘Birkin’ bangs. “This is essentially a straight, heavier fringe, with longer, slightly shattered out layers,” explains Reed. “Jane Birkin’s haircut is making a big resurgence and it definitely gives off cool, French girl vibes.”

I love how beautifully the fringe blends into the rest of the hair, making it look super natural and chic.

A pomade will help to keep your fringe in place and give it some of that cool-girl texture.

The Italian bob is all about volume. “It has rounded layers with a square perimeter,” says Reed.  “It’s soft, feminine and voluminous, and you can add heated rollers in to help get the look.”

If I was tempted to cut my hair short this autumn, this would definitely be the style I would go for. It’s simply stunning!

As mentioned by Reed, heated rollers will help to get that voluminous finish.

Last, but by no means least is the ‘Rachel 2.0’ haircut. “This is a really strong perimeter haircut with a butterfly layer through the front that literally skims the face,” explains Reed. “It’s quite texturized, so you can cut a strong line in. It’s a much more personalised, detailed haircut, which focuses on reducing the weight on the interior but maintaining a strong base line on the exterior.”

For those of you who don’t want anything too drastic, this is a beautiful way to add some layers and volume.

This spray will help to add volume and movement to the hair, not to mention look super chic on your dressing table.
