The Spring 2023 Starter Pack: 8 Things You’ll Want to Wear Immediately

Welcome to the Starter Pack series, a Who What Wear column that dives deep into the seasonal trends everyone’s talking about.

Despite the current frigid temperatures many cities are facing, spring is slowly inching closer. And with a new season comes new trends in tow for us to sift through, but it can be a tad overwhelming to face them all.  Our closets (and minds) can only hold so much, after all. That’s why our Starter Pack series is here to give you the rundown on what’s most important amongst the noise. While we took runway collections into consideration, this series focuses on which pieces translated over to what people are wearing IRL. They may have started as a microtrend or started on a celebrity look, but as of now, they’ve blown up and we predict will only get bigger for spring.

Below, you’ll find a curated list of eight trends that’ll help kickstart another stylish season. If you have some of the items on the list already, not only are we impressed, but you’re on the path to sartorial success. And if there’s something that you haven’t set eyes on yet—you can shop it below. As always, we’re here to help you start each season on the right foot. Keep scrolling and trust us, because these are the trends to know.

From full skirts to column skirts, maxi hemlines have been a recurring conversation on Who What Wear. But the number one skirt trend we’ve seen has to be the denim maxi, a comeback from the early ‘2000s. This time, the style offers more range from sleek and straight shapes to more bohemian silhouettes.

Belts have always been a wardrobe staple, but current attention on the accessory is at an all-time high. There’s an extra focus on the hardware of the belt, whether it be an oversized buckle or an interesting shape.

While ballet flats are still a favored shoe of choice, the trend has expanded and brought mary janes onto the scene. Just add a pair of calf-length socks or tights and you’re ready to go.

This is not a sign to get rid of your oversized blazers, but it is okay to switch things up and add a cinched blazer into your rotation. The current trending style still offers relaxed sleeves but the defined waist brings in an extra luxe factor.

Striking red was spotted on both the F/W and S/S 23 runways, and the fashion set is in full agreement. Whether it’s a statement-making clothing item or accessory, it’s a pop of color that’ll make you look extremely fashion-forward.

The ultra-pretty trend has picked up full steam since last year, with rosettes holding the current spotlight. Whether you opt for a subtle hair clip or an embellished blouse, it’ll have everyone swooning over your look.

In case you haven’t noticed, a common theme for 2023 fashion is making subtle statements, even with jewelry. Bottega Veneta’s drop earring caused quite a stir, and now uniquely shaped earrings are all anyone’s talking about right now.

Not only does the slingback strap offer comfort, but the shoe itself brings a polished twist to any outfit. Even paired with casual items like jeans or leggings, you’ll look put together thanks to your elevated shoe choice.
