The 2021 Trends Celebs in Their 20s Are and Aren’t Wearing

You probably follow quite a few celebrities in their 20s on Instagram and TikTok, and it’s probably to see who they’re dating, what their houses look like, what they’re eating for breakfast, and perhaps most importantly, what they’re wearing. Instagram and TikTok are almost all we have to dress up for right now, so celebrities have really stepped it up for their feeds.

I may be in my 30s, but I too am intrigued by what 20-something celebs are wearing these days, and which current trends they are and aren’t endorsing. When it comes to trends, It girls like Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa are incredibly influential, so if you want to know what the most important trends of any given season are, you’d be wise to look to them, among other trend-loving celebrities. Or, instead of spending countless hours scrolling through Instagram or getting sucked into a TikTok rabbit hole, why not just read this story?

Scroll on to find out which 2021 trends 20-something celebs are embracing and skipping.

Corsets and bustier tops are the “dressy” top style of choice for Addison Rae and so many other 20-something trendsetters. Pair one with baggy pants or jeans for the most of-the-moment look. The 2021 trend we’re not seeing on the 20-something celeb set is tunics, which were prevalent enough among the S/S 21 collections to be noteworthy. Pictured: Addison Rae

After how drastically ripped jeans disappeared from lists of denim trends several years ago, it’s a bit surprising that they’re back in such a big way, but that’s fashion for you. Skinny jeans are much more of a basic than a 2021 trend, but so much debate has been made as of late about them that it’s worth pointing out that celebs in their 20s are opting to ignore them. Say goodbye to stick of butter dressing and hello to stick of bubblegum dressing. It’s safe to say that people are looking for fashion to cheer them up as opposed to bore them these days, hence the intense popularity of happy shades of pink. Pictured: Sydney Sweeney

It kind of feels like sheer pieces are a trend every season, but with good reason—they’re beautiful and they keep you cool when it’s warm. Yara Shahidi looks both beautiful and cool in her Zimmermann top. Perhaps it’s a bit early to proclaim the fate of the trend, but maxi-length dresses and skirts haven’t been adopted by the 20-something set yet this year. Stay tuned. Pictured: Yara Shahidi

Given the number of cool cut-out pieces on the market right now, it’s no wonder celebrities are deeming them special enough to Instagram.  While the draped pieces that appeared on the runway are certainly beautiful, celebs in their 20s are skipping them for now. Pictured: Barbie Ferreira

The bucket hat is the accessory trend that just doesn’t seem to want to die, and celebrities like Hailey Bieber are clearly okay with that. Based on all the cool iterations that brands are putting out there, the trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. On the other hand (no pun intended), while gloves may be an elegant addition to a wardrobe, they’re not the most practical of trends, so they seem to have been put on the backburner for now.

Colorful jewelry that looks like something you might’ve made (or saved up for) in middle school is all the rage, and I completely get it. These pieces make the outfits the accompany fun and personal. While silver jewelry is making a comeback, celebs in their 20s have yet to get on board, but that may not be the case for long. Pictured: Dua Lipa

You probably saw this one coming… Celebs like Bella Hadid have pretty much cemented the return of the low-rise jeans that were so popular in the early 2000s. Love it or hate it, the trend is here to stay (for now). I wouldn’t say that mom jeans have disappeared, but they don’t feel as fresh as they once did. 20-somethings are just opting for styles like baggy, distressed, and low-rise jeans more frequently these days. Next up, the most important spring 2021 trends, period.
