R. Kelly To Be Moved To NYC For Sex-Trafficking Trial

A federal judge has granted a request to move R. Kelly to NYC so that he can face his sex trafficking trial to New York City.

The trial in Brooklyn federal court had been delayed several times because of the pandemic, but U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly told lawyers that there are courthouse protections and Kelly’s trial can begin Aug. 9.

“It’s going to be normal as that is defined in these unusual times,” she said. “It may be that communication is through headsets, but it’s been working in other trials so I’m not too concerned about that.”

Kelly will also be moved to a New York jail, most likely the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He is currently in a jail in Chicago, where he has been since his arrest in 2019.

Kelly is in Chicago on a separate federal indictment that includes charges of child pornography, sexual exploitation of children and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. He will face a trial in Chicago once his New York trial is wrapped up.
