I’m Ready to Ditch Some of My Sandals—I Think I’m Done With These 5 Styles

With a new season on the horizon it’s time again for me to reevaluate everything in my closet—let the spring and summer outfit planning begin! One area of my wardrobe I like to start with first is my shoe collection.

With the spring season about to start, I especially like to focus on my sandal selection. I begin by doing an inventory of sorts to see which styles I’ll keep in rotation this year while also deciding which styles I’d like to retire. Then, I spot the holes in my collection to see what new sandal trends might be missing. Once complete, I take some time with the sandals I’d like to retire and separate the ones I won’t wear again into a “donate or sell” pile and put the rest into a “store for later” pile. The latter are likely classics that are currently feeling a little dated but will come in handy again in the future.

Sound like something you are interested in doing with me? Ahead, I break down the sandal styles I am ditching (for the moment anyway) and show you the options I am keeping in rotation, plus the new sandal trends I plan on adding to my collection.

Step aside pool slides, it’s all about flip-flops right now. The simple style has a lot of range—there are simple styles for everyday looks and versions with low heels to add a polished, elevated feel. Plus, there’s a color and design out there to fit every personal style.

This particular flip-flip has been super popular recently—it often sells out. Check out the other color options as well.

I love this minimalist white take with the short heel. They are great for dresses.

Leave it to Totême to create a timeless heeled flip-flop. I know all the Scandi fashion girls will be wearing these all summer long.

For more of a statement, try an option with chunky straps. I’ve seen similar styles on some of my favorite influencers.

This sporty white option is fun and fashion-forward.

T-strap sandals will likely come back with a vengeance but for now I’m all about barely-there styles with thin straps. This minimalist style gives the illusion of longer legs and is sexy to boot. There’s a pair that’s great for everything from running errands to date night.

The minimalist in me is head over heels for this pair. I’d have hard time choosing between black and this cream color.

I can see myself wearing these on repeat with everything from jeans to flowy dresses.

This is THE shoe to wear for any dressier even this season. Go with a white color for a super modern feel.

These lace-up sandals have a cool toe-loop design that will likely become a big trend in seasons to come.

If you want a metallic fix, these are a subtle pick that can get a lot of wear.

Instantly give any look a cool factor with this strappy style. The heel is low so they are guaranteed to keep you comfy.

This fashion-forward sandal trend has slowly been creeping into the picture. Thankfully, those that are ahead of the curve, like Monikh, are giving us some great inspiration on how to wear a pair this season. Think long minimalist dresses or more low-key jeans and t-shirt looks.

This more affordable option is likely going to sell out fast.-they truly look designer.

I love the sporty monochrome look of this pair. Even the buckles match.

If you live in chunky lug-sole boots this option is a great way to transition the look into sandal form.

The Row’s take is essentially the holy grail. You will likely see these all over your Instagram feed if you haven’t already.

Here’s a neutral option for those not really into the usual black or white takes. Plus, they are Dr. Scholl’s which means they probably feel like walking on a cloud.

Don’t get me wrong, espadrilles have been worn for decades for a reason and they always have their place in a chic wardrobe. However, I’m currently opting for flat elevated slide sandals that are equally comfortable but offer an extra level of style. Shop six of my favorite picks of the moment below.

This timeless pair of black sandals goes with just about look. On a side note, notice the toe-loop design that I mentioned earlier.

This flat woven or crossed leather sandal style has been trending for a few years now since they give a polished feel to any outfit.

This is my luxe pick out of the group. I love having a snakeskin sandal to liven things up—I’m wearing some as I write this.

Ruched sandals are another cool trend to try now. They are great for making a subtle statement.

This classic slide style is a perfect option for work looks or anything that calls for a dressier option.

These slides are a chic nod to the fisherman sandal trend.

Hello, ‘90s-inspired sandals. These platforms and flatforms (aka flat platforms) are garnering a lot of attention this season. They primarily come in slide and flip-flop versions. Anything that stylishly lets me live in my ‘90s nostalgia is more than welcome in my closet.

I found Lucy Williams’s exact pair on sale. They definitely have a cool factor.

I’m obsessed with the color of these platform slides. They come in all-black, but this is just so much more fun.

These mega platforms bring things to next level, literally. If you want some extra height and to add some oomph to your look, these are it.

My inner-tween is rejoicing at the resurgence of this style. I lived in these back in the day.

Oh, chunky Proenza Schouler designs, how I love thee. It’s the stitching details for me.

These simple suede beauties bring an understated elegance to the platform conversation.

The double buckle makes this pair stand out even more.
