I'm Calling It—the “Hush Cut” Will Be Autumn's Coolest Hair Trend

If you’ve read our guide to the trendiest autumn haircuts, then you may have already come across what is, quite possibly, the coolest hairstyle of the whole season. That’s right, I’m talking about the “hush cut”. See? Even the name is cool. If you’re yet to hear about this trend, then let me get you up to speed. As mentioned before, when speaking to hair stylist, expert and founder of Arkive Headcare Adam Reed about trendy haircuts, he said that the hush cut will be one of the biggest styles this autumn.

The hashtag already racked up 76.9 million views on TikTok, and celebrities such as Jenna Ortega and Taylor Hill are giving it a go. In fact, Hill recently debuted her short hush cut hair transformation, and it’s safe to say that we are very into it.

There’s no denying that there’s a lot of hype around this hairstyle, but if you’re wondering what it actually is, how to achieve it and even how to style it, then keep on scrolling for all the info (and inspo) you need…

First things first, what actually is this haircut? Similar to the shag hairstyle, this cut also features lots of layers and texture, however, it’s not as choppy as your typical shag ‘do. Instead, the layers are a lot softer, almost giving the impression that the hair has been subtly feathered.

The style was originally created in Korea, and most of the time it is accompanied by a wispy fringe or curtain bangs that blend perfectly into the rest of the hair. What I love about this cut is that although it’s a lot softer than the shag hairstyle, it still gives off a super-cool, “I just woke up like this” vibe that I’ve been trying to achieve for years. The best news? This style can work for all hair types and textures, as you’ll see below.

I’m sorry, but is this not the trendiest haircut you have ever seen? Get me to the salon ASAP.

Billie Eilish’s wispy fringe compliments her hush cut beautifully.

Okay, how good does this style look on curly hair?

So, so cool.

If you have fine hair, this cut can add lots of texture.

Pair your hush cut with winged eyeliner for the ultimate autumn look.

Just stunning.

The hush cut works on both long and short hair, so don’t be afraid to give it a go for the new season.

To give your layers some texture and volume, try using a hot air styler like this one from Babyliss.

Don’t forget some texture mist, too.

For those of you with curly hair, opt for a styling cream to emphasise the pieciness of your hush cut.

This Living Proof cream will help to fight flyaways and keep your new style in place.
