I Tried the Buzzy Sculpting Tool Hailey Bieber Swears By

Welcome to I Tried It Month, where we’ll be publishing a new fashion, beauty, or wellness article every day in January that features a first-person account of shaking up an old habit, pushing beyond a comfort zone, or simply trying something new. Follow along for 31 days of storytelling, including everything from going without a cell phone for 40 days to trying the polarizing low-rise-pants trend.

What did you try?

The NuFace Mini Facial Toning Device ($209) for 30 days.

Why did you try it?

I had read and seen tons of first-person success stories from using the NuFace and its effects on tightening and brightening your skin. Celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Aniston, and Bella Hadid all swear by the device. I’m getting married this year and was on the hunt for a noninvasive way to make my skin look more radiant, so I had to give this tool a try.

How did you prepare?

I educated myself on the device and what exactly to expect. The NuFace uses microcurrent technology to safely and effectively achieve and maintain a healthier, younger-looking appearance. I made sure to utilize the NuFace Learn section on its website, which provides videos on how to use the device. I also switched my skincare routine to non-oil-based cleansers, as the instruction manual noted that oil-based cleansers may affect the conductivity of the NuFace microcurrent.

What happened during the whole process?

For the best results, you should take a picture of your face before you begin using the NuFace and another picture after 60 days of using the NuFace five times a week. For this challenge, I only used the NuFace for 30 days, so I’m still on my sculpting journey, but I can already see tremendous results. In the beginning, I used the facial guide provided with my NuFace Mini to get the hang of how to use the device and in what order on my face. I always started at my neck, moving in slow upward motions until I heard the device beep. Then I’d move on to another portion of my neck and face, slowly working my way up until I’d finish on my forehead. Once I was a few weeks into the process and felt more comfortable with my NuFace, I’d play around with where I wanted to use the device and focus a bit more on my cheekbone, jawline, and eyebrow—those were the places where I began to see the most significant changes. I loved adding this tool to my skincare routine, and I often used it in the morning, which felt like a moment of self-care to start my day.

Any challenges?

I always needed to make sure my face was adequately moisturized when using my device. If your skin is on the drier side, or the primer has quickly soaked into your skin (ahem, the story of my life) prior to running the device over it, it will give you a slightly shocking “zap” feeling. I also tried to avoid running the tool over my hairline and eyebrows, as sometimes I’d get the same zapping sensation. On a pain scale, I’d give it a 0.05 out of 10, so it’s definitely painless. It’s just a little surprising when it happens.

Any surprises?

I was genuinely surprised at how well this tool sculpted my face, most notably my cheekbone area.

How did you feel afterward? What kind of changes did you notice?

After 30 days of consistently using the device five days a week, I noticed my face looked significantly more contoured and sculpted, and the skin on my neck is noticeably tighter.

What did you like about it?

I like how quick and convenient this device is to use for such incredible results. After just one use, I felt like I just had a round of Botox, minus the scary needles, swelling, and any side effects.

What did you dislike?

Nothing! I’d highly recommend this device for you to see the results for yourself.

Would you try it again?

Absolutely. I’m adding this to my routine indefinitely and cannot wait to compare the results after I’ve successfully used the device for 60 days. I’m also considering purchasing the NuFace Fix Line Smoothing Device ($149) to target smaller areas and the Trinity Eye & Lip Enhancer Attachment ($159) to target my lips. Needless to say, I’m hooked.

Any advice for anyone who’s thinking about trying it?

Be patient with the long-term results. You’ll see them when comparing photos after the 30- and 60-day marks, but it may be less noticeable after only a few weeks. It is a pricier tool, so just do your research to find out if this product is for you!
