I Lead a Fashion Department—These Are the Versatile Items We All Wear

As one of the heads of our fashion editorial department here at WWW, I lead a lot of meetings (albeit virtually for the most part). Often, after we complete the necessary agenda items (whether that’s a brainstorm or a story run-through), the conversation will naturally lead to shopping and what’s currently at the front of our closets. This probably doesn’t come as much of a shock given that we’re all fashion editors. Well, recently, everyone weighed in on the elevated basics they’re coveting. Of course, there was a lot of overlap.

We discovered there are essentially five versatile items everyone on the team owns and won’t give up for a while. I’m talking about everything from a specific denim cut to an of-the-moment shirting silhouette. Keep scrolling for a deeper dive, complete with styling references from various team members and shopping picks.

The oversize shirt continues to reign supreme as a modern staple. In terms of colors, our favorites run the gamut—everything from classic white to saturated hues to lighter shades.

Straight-leg jeans will always be go-tos, but the more relaxed silhouettes are front-runners among the team for that of-the-moment vibe.

Elevated basics are key to a well-balanced wardrobe, and leather trousers are a must-have in this category. That ideal pair will bring an elevated, luxe feel to any ensemble.

Our editors unanimously agree that a slouchier blazer is a wardrobe essential. That A+ style is polished, modern, and chic.

In terms of true spring staples, a trusty trench won’t fail. Currently, it’s all about the longline styles that we’re all gravitating toward.
