I Just Spent Two Weeks in L.A.—Here’s What I’m Inspired to Buy for Summer

Despite having been born in L.A. and spending the first 25 years of my life there (compared to only the last five in NYC), it didn’t take me long to acclimate to style and dressing in a new city. And sure, New York participates in summer, too, but when it’s no longer a year-round vibe, you tend to need a refresher every time the season rolls back around.

I recently spent two weeks back home experiencing temperatures I wasn’t quite prepared for in May and spending a lot of time observing those around me, and after that, I think my summer shopping list is ready a little earlier than expected this year. Conveniently, this all coincides with Nordstrom’s highly anticipated Half-Yearly Sale, so I figured I’d attempt to do all my shopping among the markdowns. I’m proud to say I was able to find it all, from dainty and fun jewelry to laid-back denim to sandals of both the fancy and simple variety to so many dresses. It’s the little things.

For that Y2K look.

Everyone needs a pair of shorts, and these are perfect.

I love how simple these are.

Adorable-sweater alert.

Reformation just gets it.

You can never have enough pairs.

This color has taken over all my wish lists.

Case in point.

This is definitely not another basic white top.

So simple yet so cool.

Add a little fun to every outfit.

A must.

There’s a reason it has such great reviews.

This season, baggy is best.

I’m a sucker for party shoes.

Little white dress? Check.

Just add jeans.

Speaking of jeans…

You’ll never get sick of this classic bag.

Now, you’re ready for all those summer events.

These will be so useful.

What’s better than a set?

An extra pink tank just for good measure.

Iconic beachwear looks await you.

An LBD is essential in any season.

Easy sandals for all your looks.

I love this subtle dot print.

You can’t go wrong with Levi’s.

The leather makes this so much more special.

That knit you’ll throw over your shoulders on chillier nights.

More perfect jeans on sale!

An easy yes from me.

You can easily dress this up or down.

Everyone knows I’m a sucker for an initial necklace, and this one is so fun.

If you don’t already own this, now is the time.

You can wear it well beyond the beach.

Staud coming through with that ’90s flair.
