I Bet These 5 Trends From Milan Will Blow Up Next Spring

While the festivities surrounding Milan Fashion Week were considerably duller than usual, the same can’t be said for the clothes. The spring/summer 2021 runway looks from Italian heavyweights like Versace, Prada, Tod’s, and Fendi were anything but lifeless. Brands brought their A-game despite extenuating circumstances, just like they did during NYFW and London Fashion Week this season, lending some much-needed hope to fashion fans everywhere.

We scoured through the images and came across a handful of recurring themes during Milan Fashion Week. One of them was very much in line with what most of us have been wearing at home lately: sweatshirts. Of course, they were given a high-fashion spin via sleeve details, logos, and interesting styling techniques. Scroll down to see and shop all five of the standout trends.

This trend might not feel revolutionary, but the execution of see-through overlays this season really does feel quite genius. Be it a top or a dress, this delicate trend will feel so refreshing come spring 2021.

Hoodies, but make it fashion. That was the motto of brands like Prada, MM6 Maison Margiela, and Max Mara, who all presented upgraded hoodies for S/S 21. I particularly love how Prada scrunched up the sleeves of its white sweatshirt and styled it with a thin turtleneck underneath.

Hot pants have slowly but surely been creeping their way into the spotlight since last spring. We love how this season, Italian designers made them feel abnormally approachable with the addition of matching tops, printed blouses, and more.

Brace yourselves: Low-rise pants will be everywhere next spring if Fendi, Versace, and Tod’s have anything to do with it. Fendi and Versace want you to show off your abs, while Tod’s is advocating for wearing slouchy trousers with a matching trenchcoat.

Fits like a glove. Valentino, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, and MM6 Maison Margiela are some of the brands that want you to experiment with gloves, from opera-length versions to short, hot pink gloves.
