Hold On: Every Celeb Is Wearing This Controversial Boot Trend Right Now

Knowing that when a trend goes out of style, it’ll eventually make it’s way back again, I held onto my trusty over-the-knee boots even after the style was dubbed “out” a few years ago. I was holding out hope that one day, a handful of celebrities would dare to wear the controversial shoe trend again, catalyzing their comeback. And it’s a good thing I did, because just as I predicted, over-the-knee boots are heading for a comeback.

Whereas I used to go months without spotting a pair of the extra-tall boots on anyone, let alone a celebrity, I’ve recently been spotting them everywhere. For a pre-BAFTAs event hosted by Chanel, Emma Watson wore a pair from the almost sold-out collaboration between Jimmy Choo and Mugler. Following the award show, Pam & Tommy star Lily James was seen wearing a mint-green pair of Roberto Cavalli boots to an after party. And that was only in the last 72 hours or so. More advocates of the trend include Irina Shayk, Kim Kardashian, and Dua Lipa.

But it’s not just celebrities. During fashion month, nearly every designer included at least one pair of over-the-knee boots in their F/W 22 collection, from Bottega Veneta and Max Mara to Michael Kors and Khaite. Street-style stars outside of the shows also frequented the style, including Caroline Daur and Courtney Trop. Suffice to say, over-the-knee boots are back in a major way, whether you were ready for their return or not.

Prepare for their epic comeback by shopping a few of our favorite pairs below.

The square heel takes these to another level of cool.

When Staud gets its hands on a trend, you know it’s about to be huge.

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as scoring an on-the-rise trend on sale.

An all-time classic.

A steal.

This is what’s called a no-brainer.

Peep the square toe.

This heel height is just right.

Charles & Keith is my go-to for shoes that look $500 but often cost under-$100.

Western-wear at its finest.

It’s the extra-chunky heel for me.

Luxury in shoe form looks a lot like these boots.

I always appreciate a sparkle moment.

It’s starting to become clear just how big this boot style is going to be in the next few months.

Festival season will be here in no time, and these are the boots to wear once it arrives.

Half-off alert.

These are a great mid-price option.

These are giving early-aughts Aspen vibes.

I’ve had a pair like this since college, so I can say with 100% certainty that they’re regret-proof.

This shade of green is absolutely stunning.

The slouchy style allows you to wear these high or low.

Take your edgier side out for a spin.

This is pair you could hold onto for a long, long time.

If you can’t tell, I saved the best for last.
