Here's Why The Women Of “Harry Potter” Were The Most Important Characters

Hello, Isha here. Today I’ve decided to talk about one of my favourite topics of all time: Harry Potter.

Warner Bros

But I’m not here to discuss Harry’s bravery, Ron’s loyalty or Dumbledore’s wisdom. No, I’m here to talk about the badass witches that made it possible for Harry to take down Voldemort in the first place.

Warner Bros

Let’s start with Miss Hermione Granger, aka the brightest witch of her age.

Warner Bros

It’s no secret that Hermione was the “brains” of the group. She showed a strong aptitude for spells during her first year (“It’s leviOsa, not levioSA!”) and it was her quick thinking that led Harry towards the philosopher’s stone. And hello, let’s not forget that she made a POLYJUICE POTION in her second year AND was trusted with the ability to TIME TRAVEL in her third year.

Besides being extremely intelligent, Hermione wasn’t afraid to kick ass. And she did, multiple times throughout the books and movies.

Warner Bros

Even though Hermione was a stickler for the rules, she wasn’t afraid to take risks for the greater good. Like remember when she blackmailed Rita Skeeter? Or helped organise Dumbledore’s Army? Or when she punched that smug look off Malfoy’s face? Iconic.

And let’s not forget her bravery, strength and kindness, which made her a true Gryffindor.

Warner Bros

Hermione was without a doubt one of Harry’s biggest and strongest supporters. She believed in him, even when others didn’t, and sacrificed so much of her personal life to help him succeed in his quest. Alongside that, she somehow managed to find the time to start S.P.E.W. (the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) after seeing the unfair working conditions of house elves.

Next, let’s talk about Luna Lovegood. Far from being “loony”, Luna was one of the most intelligent and creative characters in the series.

Warner Bros

Unlike Hermione’s logical personality, Luna’s wisdom came from her creativity and intuition. She thought outside of the box and didn’t feel the need to conform to everyone’s idea of normal.

She was also an extremely devoted friend and showed unparalleled kindness to all those around her.

Warner Bros

A good example was when Luna addressed Dobby as “sir” while she was trying to escape from Malfoy Manor. While this baffled Dobby, who was a lowly house elf, Luna saw nothing wrong with it. To her, everyone was equal regardless of their class or occupation.

Alongside Luna, there’s the feisty and strong-willed Ginny Weasley who was one of the most gifted fighters in Dumbledore’s Army.

Warner Bros

As displayed by her impressive bat-bogey hexes, Ginny was an extraordinary witch. She owned her power, talent and strength, and never let being a “girl” get in the way of her dreams. Case in point: her Quidditch skills.

But the best thing about Ginny was her stubbornness. She was never afraid to voice her opinion, stand up to bullies and put Harry in his place.

Warner Bros

This conversation between Harry and Ginny during Order of the Phoenix is a perfect example. After speaking to her, Harry realised he wasn’t the only one that had been through hell and back with Voldemort.

“I didn’t want anyone to talk to me,” said Harry, who was feeling more and more nettled.

“Well, that was a bit stupid of you,” said Ginny angrily, “seeing as you don’t know anyone but me who’s been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I can tell you how it feels.”

Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he wheeled around.

“I forgot,” he said.

“Lucky you,” said Ginny coolly.

Speaking of red-haired boss bitches, Molly Weasley takes the crown. She not only managed to cook, clean and keep her seven children in line, but she basically adopted Harry and treated him as one of her own.

Warner Bros

Molly was the definition of a loving, warm and strong mother figure. She was there for Harry’s wins and his many dark moments. But the most important thing that she offered Harry was a safe and stable home to come back to.

Oh, and she kicked major ass. But we already knew that.

Warner Bros

Frame this scene and put it in a museum because it is THAT good.

Next let’s talk about the one and only Professor Minerva McGonagall, or as I like to call her, the ultimate badass.

Warner Bros

Unrivaled sass? Check. Great intellect? Check. Brave AF? Check, check, check.

But one of McGonagall’s biggest impacts was being a pillar of strength for Harry throughout his whole life.

Warner Bros

She cared deeply for him and was there at the beginning, dropping him off at the Dursleys, and at the end, fighting alongside him at the Battle of Hogwarts.

While I would love to go on and on about the strong women in Harry’s life, this post does have to come to an end.

Warner Bros

Shoutout to Fleur, Cho and Tonks who were incredible characters as well.

But I hope this has reminded you of the impact that these badass witches had. Without them, there simply wouldn’t have been a Harry Potter – both in the book, movie and character sense – to love and cherish.
