Everywhere I Look, Fashion People Are Wearing This “Dated” Top Trend

Whenever a noughties trend resurfaces, fashion editors everywhere collectively hold their breath. An era known for its hit-or-miss sartorial taste, early 2000s style is somewhat divisive. We’re looking at you, low-waisted trousers. And so each time a designer brings a Y2K relic back to life, no matter how masterfully, we’re never confident that the response will be positive.

Thankfully, there is one throwback item that’s proved to be wholly popular in 2023. I’m talking about the tube top, also known as the bandeau top. Influencers globally have clocked on to the simplicity of this strapless basic, styling it with jeans, skirts, wide-leg trousers or cargos and flip-flops for a head-to-toe noughties look.

The truth is, tube tops should be a summer staple, and frankly, I’m surprised it’s taken us until 2023 to fully embrace them. Not only do they show off your décolletage in a flattering fashion, but you can also wear them in the sun without worrying about annoying tanlines. Sounds like a win-win. All you need is a supportive strapless bra (unless you’re comfortable bra-less) and you’re good to go.

Opt for a bold bandeau top, like Marina’s bright pink iteration, and ‘clash’ it with vibrant accessories.

There are plenty of printed tube tops out there if you’re looking for added interest—this snakeskin version really elevates Anne-Laure’s blue jeans.

Nnenna slots her tube top into a super summery look. The off-white shade really complements the blue of the skirt.

I’m off to re-create this look ASAP—there’s something about the dark brown top and white linen trousers that looks so expensive.

I love how Samantha has styled her basic bandeau for an evening out, showing how easy it is to dress this staple up or down.

Starting this off with a simple and sustainable version. You really can’t go wrong.

I don’t now about you, but I’ll be adding this one to my basket.

The pleating is so elegant.

This also comes in black.

This fun denim top would be great for a summer night out.

Endlessly versatile.

Proof you can find designer-looking items on the high street.

The twist front is a nice detail.

Summer is the time to embrace bright colours.

The perfect going-out top to wear with jeans.

You can also pick this up in brown, red, beige and lavender.

Such a dreamy co-ord. How stunning is that colour?

This looks so premium paired with gold jewellery.

I love the pretty ties on this style.

So chic when worn with blue jeans and simple sandals.

A pretty pink bandeau is a solid choice if you’re tipping your toe in the Barbiecore trend.

Stunning.

Another gorgeous COS number.

This would look so sweet styled with a cotton maxi skirt.

I’d style this exactly how COS has for a night out.

The ideal foundation for a fuss-free outfit.

Wear this shimmery number next time you hit the dancefloor.
