Elegant, Anti-Trend and Understated—This Dress Trend Is Suddenly Everywhere

It all started whilst I was on the hunt for a new pair of loafers. As with all my shopping trips, what was once a single-minded act of get-in-and-get-out transformed into an afternoon of perusing the new-in sections, justified as work research. Five changing rooms and three bags later, I left stocked up on some of my favourite high-street basics, as well as one stand out item—a draped jersey dress.

I’m wearing the H&M Draped Jersey Dress (£28)

Whilst there are those that always flock to frocks, only in the past few years have I begun dipping my toe into this particular category. That’s not to say that I don’t fall for dresses in the same way that others do, I’m just a bit more discerning when it comes to actually adding them to my wardrobe. So when one finally does make its way into my closet, you can rest assured there’s good reason for it. For this dress, it’s all about the design. The drape detail is not only incredibly flattering on the body, but also adds a feel of considered design that lends itself to designer brands. So no matter which price point you enter at, you’ll find this style gives the impression of an investment each time.

The added appeal of this dress is that it requires minimal effort to style. For the office, I layer in a black blazer and add a pair of low heels for a smart finish, whilst on weekends its easy to dress down with trainers thanks to the jersey fabrication. The particular dress I snapped up is now out of stock (we all know how quickly a great H&M piece can move) but it’s still available in other shades and the power of the style is so universal that many other brands have created their own. Just keep scrolling to explore them.

This one’s just had a restock. I’d move fast if I were you.

M&S’s offering comes in black and grey, as well as three lengths for the ideal fit.

Cream shades always feel so elevated.

The dropped shoulders are such a nice touch.

If you’re simply after an evening option, look no further than Christopher Eber’s elegant maxi.

The asymmetric ruching is seriously eye catching.

And it comes in this cool khaki shade.

Add knee-high boots now, or slip on sandals come summertime.

Made from 100% organic cotton.
