Believe It or Not, Moon Boots Are the Official *It* Shoes of Fashion Month

If you thought 2022’s fixation with fashion from the turn of the century hit its peak with micro miniskirts and ultra low-rise jeans, just wait until you hear about the sartorial sector’s latest obsession. First spotted on the streets of Copenhagen during the city’s runway shows at the beginning of the month, Moon Boots are fast becoming the most-worn footwear trend of the F/W 22 season. And no, I’m not kidding.

Following their debut in Copenhagen, the astronaut-inspired knee-high and ankle-high boots that ruled the Sundance Film Festival fashion scene in the early aughts have appeared on show-goers in every city on the Fashion Month circuit, including New York and London. Paired with knee-high leg warmers, slouchy trousers, and minidresses, Moon Boots are proving to be a surprisingly wearable shoe choice, which might be why they’re almost completely sold out.

Further fueling their comeback, influencers and celebrities are, too, turning to the style for their end-of-winter wardrobes. Earlier this week, Camille Charriere posted a slideshow on her Instagram showcasing her mini Moon Boots styled with black jeans and a plaid puffer, while Copenhagen-based model Karoline Beltner wore her metallic pair with cargo pants and a shearling jacket. Saving the best for last, Dua Lipa debuted a pair on her Instagram, worn during the current Future Nostalgia tour. In other words, they’re gaining steam fast. And if you want to hop on the Moon-Boot train before every last pair sells out, you’ll have to act fast.

To help you score some Moon Boots while you still can, I scoured every last retailer that sells them, rounding up the best pairs with the most sizes available, below.

NYC-based model Anaa Saber went full Y2K with her Moon-Boot look during NYFW, styling a green, knee-high pair with a micro miniskirt, leg warmers, and a belly top.

How good are these?

Vogue’s Senior Fashion Projects Editor Julia Hobbs gave her taupe-colored suit and poplin shirt a boost with a pair of moon boots during London Fashion Week, because duh.

Despite it being no more than 30 degrees in NYC when this photo was taken outside of the Coach show, this showgoer doesn’t appear affected in the slightest, likely because of her choice of footwear.

Total Space Age vibes.

Yep, those really are Dior Moon Boots.

Going the classic route is never a bad idea.

The Highsnobiety Moon Boots are ridiculously cool.

See what I mean?

Moon Boots don’t always have to make a huge statement. You can just wear them with cargo pants and be on your merry way.

The metallic styles are my personal favorite.

Fact: Camille Charriere can make anything look cool.

*Adds to cart.*

There’s no such thing as too many clashing prints—and that’s saying a lot when plaid, bandana, and teddy bear prints are all involved.

Shiny and new.

There’s arguably no one that does Y2K style better than Dua Lipa right now, which makes her wearing Moon Boots that much cooler.

Lipa’s short version is sold out everywhere, but the taller ones aren’t a bad replacement in the slightest.

Yellow is trending right now, which makes these especially in danger of selling out.

For a super-luxe alternative.

After a few years in fashion purgatory, navy is making a serious resurgence.

These are slightly toned down, making them a perfect introductory pair.

Moon Boots, but add a heavy, lug sole.

These deserve a trip to Tahoe.

The Chloé x Moon Boot collab is unmatched.

The ultimate cold-weather boots.

For indoor and outdoor use.

If you want to get real fashiony, there’s always these.
