Same, honestly.

Stannis Baratheon turned out to be a pretty great Game of Thrones character, if only for his tragic downfall and penchant for grammar corrections.

Even if you hated Stannis (didn’t we all, toward the end?), you have to admit that actor Stephen Dillane played him incredibly well, right?

But if you ask Dillane, he seems to think he didn’t do a very good job at all.

In an interview with the Times, Dillane admitted that he was often confused by the Game of Thrones story, and didn’t know what was going on.

“I didn’t know what I was doing until we’d finished filming and it was too late,” Dillane said. “I thought no one would believe in me and I was rather disheartened by the end. I felt I’d built the castle on non-existent foundations.”

Thankfully, Dillane had Liam Cunningham — aka Ser Davos — there with him to explain what the heck was going on in the story.

“Liam Cunningham is so passionate about the show,” Dillane told the Times. “He invests in it in a way I think is quite moving, but it wasn’t my experience. I was entirely dependent on Liam to tell me what the scenes were about.”

So basically, Ser Davos was an advisor to Stannis Baratheon IN REAL LIFE, TOO, and might be the reason why Dillane’s performance was so good.
