7 Trends We Already Know Will Be Huge at Fashion Week

With fashion month on the horizon, we’re in store for a fresh new season of runway shows and a debut of the collections designers have been crafting. That isn’t all though. Fashion month also means that street style is returning and insiders will be test-driving some of the coolest trends set to be huge this fall. While the runway shows are still a month away, the style set is already planning their wardrobes and I was curious to get an early look at what we can expect to hit the streets of NYC, London, Milan, and Paris.

Tapping everyone from stylists to fashion directors at the biggest luxury retailers to Who What Wear’s very own editors, it’s clear that the street style scene is set to be very stylish this fall. With items ranging from new twists on classics to risk-taking sheer dresses already set aside for their fashion week looks, there will be a lot of sartorial inspiration to feast your eyes on soon. If you want to get a head start on the trends that will be huge next month, shop each of them here.

“Everyone that knows me, knows I’m not hugely driven by trends and veer towards a minimalist but I absolutely love making classic pieces feel new. The skirt suit is top of my list this season which definitely was a common theme on the runways. Tailoring in general always runs the risk of looking too serious so will balance it with a trainer or a colour pop ballet flat depending on the skirt length. Jil Sander and Miu Miu’s versions were my favourites as they both really get the proportions right so the set doesn’t feel strictly office-bound.” — Reynolds

“Since it’ll still be wildly hot in NYC during fashion week in September, I’m planning on taking advantage of the current sheer-clothing trend as much as possible, starting with this dress by Aya Muse that I just bought on sale. My inspiration comes from both the ’90s runways, which always featured a fair share of sheer dresses and skirts, and designer Jessie Andrews, who wore this dress on her Instagram and immediately made me want one of my own.” — Huber

“I’m planning to wear a chain belt during fashion week. I will either style the belt over a maxi skirt or some denim jeans. I’m taking inspiration from the ’90s and things I used to love wearing when I was younger. I’m planning on wearing a golden Loewe chain belt and in shoes I’m excited to wear my Gucci GG slingback pumps to spice up my minimal looks.” — Mus

“I am more and more into timeless pieces and looks, however, I have been loving baggy pants lately. I love a bodysuit worn with them and a statement belt, with a blazer if chilly.” — Boublil

“While there are many trends I’m excited about this season, I fell the hardest for the return of romantic dressing. F/W 22 collections were filled with pretty things (from Fendi’s ruffled sheer slip dresses to Miu Miu’s satin bralettes paired with matching ballet flats). Frankly, in my humble opinion, there’s no other trend that’s better to wear to fashion week than this one. Give me all the ruffles, satin, sequins, and feathers because I’m starving for beauty. I think I’d spice up the more feminine pieces by either pairing them with heavy-duty leathers or even more grunge-adjacent pieces to add a little edge. Think: a feather dress paired with a moto jacket and platform boots.” — Fox-Suliaman

The Trend: Purple. “I’m very much ready to embrace purple. I know, I know, it’s a polarizing shade but—love it or loathe it—it’s happening for fall. Everyone from Bottega Veneta to Khaite and Stella McCartney sent lilac looks down the runway, and we all immediately had to reconsider if the color warrants a place in our wardrobes for fall and beyond. I love how the color feels easy and fresh while it’s still warm out (here’s looking at you, NYFW) and takes on an icy, edgier vibe for winter (follow Khaite’s lead and contrast with inky black sequins or patent leather). Designers have demonstrated its versatility, offering a broad range of shades for every skin tone—plus numerous ways to incorporate it into a look.” — Hambro

“During fashion week in September it usually still feels like summertime, but I won’t let that stop me from from showing off fall’s biggest trend, heavy duty leather. I’ve been so excited for the weather to cool down so I can put on my take on the oversized leather jacket I saw all over the runways last season. A look I know I’ll be wearing involves the aforementioned jacket, a white tank, and a micro mini skirt. In my dream world, I’d top that off with the Balenciaga Cagole mules to make sure this is a head-to-toe ensemble.” — Mayhew
