7 Major Trends We Spotted on the Street Style Set at London Fashion Week

In true Brit fashion, the Londoners delivered a healthy serving of varied, yet impeccably styled looks this September for London Fashion Week. Parading across East London, the city’s most stylish arrived in packs sporting the slickest trends from the country’s hottest designers.

We spotted a number of enduring trends that have continued to build for the past few years, whilst noting a few new arrivals that have won the hearts of the style set in recent month.

From surprising new trends, to old favourites that endure for good reason, see below my favourite trends from the London streets this past Fashion Week.

Style notes: As we start dressing for autumn, summer’s billowy maxi skirt has been usurped by its structured sister, the pleated style. Adding swish to your step, the fashion-crow favourited all styles of pleats during London Fashion Week this September.

Chopova Lowena’s grungy pleated skirt was spotted all over the streets this London Fashion Week.

Go back-to-basics with a simple black pleated midi to get the look.

Asymmetric skirts are another rising trend this autumn/winter.

Style a chic mini with semi-sheer tight and boots as we move further into autumn.

Style Notes: Is there any other clothing item more synonymous with London style than a classic trend coat? The street style set think not. Fairing well against the unpredictable weather, showgoers who bundled up checked the box of both stylish and dry during the drizzly weekend.

This two-piece trench is at the top of my autumn wishlist.

Perfectly oversized, this draped trench is a no-brainer.

This also comes in a beige shade.

The thick tonal belt completes this chic classic trench.

Style notes: Though London style has evolved enormously over the past few decades, if you walk the streets during Fashion Week you’ll find that many Brits still have a soft spot for the city’s grungy roots. Plenty of studs were spotted peppering showgoers outfits for a hardy take on Fashion Week dressing.

Perfectly oversized, this studded denim jacket is the answer to our autumn wishes.

The perfect party-season dress.

Dip your toe into the trend and start with some studded flats.

Half-moon bags are an enduring trend we can’t get enough of.

Style Notes: When done right, double denim is a failsafe for a chic ensemble. Play around with different cuts and variations in shades, or choose a matching denim set for a put-together look.

Style with the matching jeans or a simple mini skirt and white tank top.

So comfortable, you’ll forget you’re wearing jeans at all.

Wrap up in style.

Style with ballet flats or retro trainers.

Style Notes: There was one undisputed king of the London streets this fashion week, the Mary Jane shoe. Sported with oversized layers, feminine dresses and simples jeans, the Mary Jane slipper was the shoe of choice this Fashion Week.

Miu Miu’s flats are at the top of my wishlist.

We spotted so many Vibi Venezia flats this London Fashion Week.

So sleek, so stylish.

Square-toe shoes are a growing trend this autumn.

Style Notes: As in previous years, the straight-forward suit set had its time at London Fashion Week. This year, instead of styling colourful sets, the fashion crowd pared it back to a refined, grey shade that they wore head-to-toe.

These three piece suit comes Margo Robbie approved.

Wear with the matching set or style this waist coat on its own.

Every wardrobe needs a reliable pair of wool trousers.

Perfectly oversized.

Style Notes: We’ve seen the noughties trend permeate into the mainstream in the form of low rise jeans, ballet flats and wedges in recent months, but now we’re spotting the fashion set revitalise an old styling trick loved in the early ’00s: skirts and dresses over jeans. Styling up trending mesh dresses over sleek, straight-leg trousers, the fashion set have put a fresh spin on the old-favourite.

Layer with smart trousers or a subtle slip.

These come in four other colours.

The perfect winter wedding guest dress.

Black straight-leg trousers will never let you down.
