6 Beautiful Wardrobe Basics Flooding the Streets of London

Fashion Month has departed from its second stop of the season: London. Now that the shows have wrapped up, we’re taking a moment to download you on what everyone wore to and from. Each fashion week, we expect to see editors, bloggers, and celebrities wearing some of the most over-the-top outfits to and from the shows, but in London, this season, the street style scene overwhelmingly took a more practical approach, and it honestly felt like a breath of fresh air.

We noticed so many showgoers wearing more basic (and dare we say “boring”) fashion items like crisp Oxford shirts, cool trench coats, and smart loafers that they styled in the most creative ways. Practicality is becoming more important in fashion these days, and Londoners have definitely taken note. Keep scrolling to see the looks that caught our attention and shop the six basic items we saw from the London Fashion Week street style set.

Who doesn’t love a good plaid blazer? It would hardly be a fashion week street style moment if we didn’t see plenty of suiting looks and this season showgoers put this classic item front and center, styling it with on-trend pieces like knee boots and shoulder bags.

Loafers and oxfords have been bubbling up for a minute now and the streets in London are solidifying their trend status. The flats are a timeless pick that we don’t see ever going “out,” but now more than ever, fashion people are prioritizing them and giving us cool styling inspo (see socks with loafers).

Good old button-down shirts made several appearances in London this week as fashion people leaned into the polished nature of this basic. We especially love the idea of layering one of these shirts underneath a sweater or sweater vest.

Yep, denim made a cameo on the street style scene, too, and naturally the looks we saw made basic blue jeans look, well, anything but basic. The prevailing jean shape? Billowy, wide-leg pairs inspired by trousers.

Londoners have a long history with their trench coats that dates back to the 1850s, so we’re not surprised to see plenty of trench moments this week which only reinforces just how timeless they are.

London Fashion Week brings out the best dresses and skirts of all of fashion month and this season everyone decided to pair theirs with cool retro-inspired sneakers from brands like Puma and Nike.
