5 Shoe Trends Everyone Will Wear in 2022

The S/S 22 collections may have debuted last year but the biggest trends and cult buys are just starting to trickle into the market, so it’s prime time to start shopping them. While there are so many major trends and micro-trends worth noting for the season ranging from “naked” fashion to big leather jackets, I’m here to narrow in on the coolest spring shoe trends for 2022.

There were many notable styles introduced by designers, but there are five trends that are the most important to know for the season ahead. Rather than focus on any seasonal basics, I’m highlighting the most directional footwear that I predict will have a big impact on fashion this season. The shortlist ranges from the colors taking over to the silhouettes that are already going viral among the fashion set. Here, read on for the five key spring shoe trends for 2022.

For spring, designers seemed to unanimously agree that bold, vibrant colors are one of the key trends of the season. That includes everything from head-to-toe looks to accessories, but I think the easiest way to incorporate bright shades into your wardrobe is with a pair of shoes. Versace debuted slime green, Gucci made the case for canary yellow, and Prada leaned heavily into orange—arguably the color of the season. While orange is already standing out, you can’t go wrong with the rainbow of hues hitting the market. The fun has arrived!

How good is this shade?

I predict these Prada wedges will be a cult spring buy.

Yes to sculptural shapes.

To pair with slouchy jeans.

Platforms are another S/S 22 shoe trend that demands all of the joy. Inherently a party shoe, platforms are meant to be paired with a fun night out—plus a great mini dress. There are a range of styles and silhouettes hitting the market that tap into a variety of comfort levels. Gucci has a low pair that will remind you of throwback styles from the aughts, while Versace and Valentino have sky-high versions. Platforms are selling out everywhere right now, which is a sure sign that they will be a defining trend for spring.

Two trends in one.

These are about to sell out.

Now, this is a statement shoe.

One of the most talked-about shoes of the season.

A cousin to the platform, big sole sandals are a more low-key version of the party heels. With cushy, super-thick soles, these slides are cozy but intended to be seen out of the house and offer up a more wearable, everyday take on the platform. Many styles on the market share the futuristic shape and materials of Yeezy’s internet-famous slides. Whether you’re pairing them with leggings or a micro miniskirt, there’s no doubt they’re an outfit-elevating shoe.

These don’t skimp on the height.

I credit Yeezy with kicking off this trend.

Not your average slides.

Khaite is on-board with the trend.

Since spring is a transitional season, there is always a standout boot trend to know about. For S/S 22, designer after designer introduced sharply pointed knee-high boots on the runways. Balenciaga’s Cagole boots are a particular standout piece. Finished with the same grommets used on the brand’s 2001 motorcycle bag, they tap into the Y2K nostalgia that is huge this season.

So crisp.

A classic take on the trend.

Finished in Marine Serre’s iconic moon print.

Just look at that cool zipper detail.

Lace it up! Brands ranging from The Attico to Valentino endorsed ankle wrap styles for spring with lacing that ranges from ties just at the ankles to versions that go higher up the leg. Part of the larger escapist trend that dominated for spring, this shoe style feels primed for a vacation. You’ll want to make room for a pair in your suitcase.

Take note of the styling.

So versatile.

These belong in a suitcase.
