YouTube has joined the Mute R. Kelly campaign and has removed the artist’s official channels from its site.
“We can confirm that we have terminated two channels linked to R. Kelly in accordance with our creator responsibility guidelines,” a spokesperson for YouTube said.
R. Kelly TV and R. Kelly Vevo have both been pulled.
R. KELLY INTERVIEW
“Egregious actions committed by R. Kelly warrant penalties beyond standard enforcement measures due to a potential to cause widespread harm,” Nicole Alston, YouTube’s head of legal, said, per Bloomberg. “Ultimately we are taking this action to protect our users similar to other platforms.”
Kelly is banned from using YouTube but his music is still available on YouTube music– which is bizarre.
Kelly was convicted of nine racketeering and sex trafficking counts last month. His sentencing will not be until next year on May 4, 2002. The disgraced singer faces 10 years in prison and up to life.
