UK rapper Dizzee Rascal has been charged with assaulting a woman.
“Dylan Mills, 36, of Sevenoaks, Kent, has been charged with assault after an incident at a residential address in Streatham on 8 June. Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment,” London Metropolitan said in a statement.
The assault reportedly took place during a “domestic argument.”
The rapper is yet to release a public statement.
Dizzee is known for being a pioneer of grime music and his 2003 debut album, Boy in da Corner, did well in the UK charts.
He performed at the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games and even has his own record imprint, Dirtee Stank. The rapper was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honors in 2020 for services to music.
“I put grime on the main stage,” he told Complex. “I put all this sh*t, all the hip-hop, on the main stage at all these festivals when they didn’t have the confidence in it. I made them confident.”
