Trust Me—These 6 Outfit Trends Will Define Fall Style

Summer is still very real. In fact, it’s about 85° outside as I write this story. That said, I do often enjoy this time of year in the sense of looking forward to what’s next in fashion with the impending fall trends. While our editors have already started highlighting some of the fall trends that are catching their eyes—including everything from next-level accessories to the biggest colors to look out for—I thought I’d dedicate this piece to the outfit trends I think will be everywhere.

Specifically, I wanted to focus on those early-fall outfits that I think will be popular as the temperatures just start to dip. I’m talking about lightweight layered looks, elevated knit vibes, chic dress silhouettes, and more. Interested? Keep scrolling to check out six fall outfit trends to consider at some point in the future, as showcased on some of my favorite fashion people. I also shopped out each look in case you’re feeling particularly inspired by any of the ‘fits coming your way.

Our editor Anna LaPlaca spotted this stunning Fendi look, and I can’t get enough of the cropped knit sweater and pencil skirt paired with the bomber jacket on top. It’s pretty much a fall take on the midriff-baring looks we’re seen this summer, and I have a feeling this is going to be a major trend next season.

Fall is the ultimate time to wear transitional looks that stretch your summer pieces to the next season. Case in point: this slip-dress look that gets the fall treatment with a sleek blazer.

For fall, it’s all about balancing proportions by mixing pieces like a formfitting bodysuit and a pair of upsized trousers with a wide-leg fit. Add in a pair of heels in a shade of avocado green to hit on one of the biggest colors of the year.

If the F/W 21 runways and outfits we’re already seeing on the fashion set are any indication, pieces with matching sleeves are about to be big.

Bold, colorful looks are about to take center stage, and we’re already seeing evidence of that among the most forward dressers.
