Trump Effect: WHCA Fires Far-Left Amber Ruffin from Dinner

Quick, name a right-leaning comedian who hosted the White House Correspondents Association’s annual dinner.

Need more time? That’s understandable.

The D.C. annual gala routinely hires left-leaning to hard-Left comics to host the Spring gala. Think:

• Colin Jost
• Stephen Colbert
• Trevor Noah
• Roy Wood, Jr. 
• Cecily Strong
• Jimmy Kimmel
• Michelle Wolf

These comedians are known for avoiding Democratic targets and slamming GOP figures at great length. That chasm has only intensified over the last decade.

You have to go all the way back to 2002 to recall Drew Carey, an apolitical comic who leans Libertarian, for any balance. That’s more than 20+ years of liberal bias.

And, boy, has it shown.

Wolf’s 2018 appearance crushed what appeared to be a rising career with nasty gags that generated bipartisan anger.

Now, the WHCA, as biased as the rest of today’s Legacy Media, announced it won’t have a comedian emcee this year’s gala.

Journalism is just too important at this moment, we’re told. 

In a letter to members Saturday, WHCA President Eugene Daniels wrote that “the WHCA board has unanimously decided we are no longer featuring a comedic performance this year. At this consequential moment for journalism, I want to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists.”

Who is Eugene Daniels? He’s a host on, wait for it, MSNBC.

It is to laugh.

They still pretend they’re journalists after ignoring a U.S. president’s obvious dementia-like condition for four years … calling anyone who suggested COVID-19 came from a lab a “racist” … lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop in the heat of an election cycle. 

The list goes on and on.

The news will hit Amber Ruffin particularly hard. The “Late Night with Seth Meyers” scribe was announced as this year’s comic emcee months ago. The WHCA didn’t even have the nerve to mention her name in the decision.

Classy.

Was it something Ruffin said? Consider:

Ruffin told the Daily Beast she wanted to call the Trump administration a “bunch of murderers” but was being asked to tone down her material.

Ruffin, who is featured on CNN’s hard-Left “Have I Got News For You” program, has yet to comment on the matter.

The fallout will be interesting.

The usual suspects will call President Donald Trump a fascist because today is a day ending in “Y.”

Ruffin will play the Victim CardTM, which will give her minor career a boost.

The media will say this has a chilling effect on free speech after saying nothing about free speech attacks over the past four-plus years.

Remember how they ignored the Twitter Files? “Sensitivity Readers” censoring classic books? The Biden Administration forcing tech giants to shutter speech?

The funny part?

The WHCA is trying to stay above the partisan fray with the decision. Its leaders understand a scorched earth set from Ruffin would make them look as biased as they are.

Yet they won’t actually address their biases in real time. It’s all make-believe.

President Trump has flaws, but his greatest strength is coaxing his critics to reveal their true selves.
