The Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why was released March 31 of this year, and if you’re a fan, you’re still emotionally wrecked and have rewatched it roughly a million times.
The series was so popular, Season 2 is already in production.

And if you’re a truly eagle-eyed fan, you might have spotted a small but extremely important detail in the heartbreaking final episode.

When you watch the students’ deposition tapes, you can see in the lower lefthand corner that they’re all being interviewed on the same day: Nov. 10, 2017, aka today!
In a way, the timestamps reframe Hannah’s entire story. The story is no longer definitively set in the past — the events of the show could, theoretically, be happening in real time.

There are a few theories as to the importance of the date. One theory involves the lyrics to a song featured in the show by Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam — a sad nod to the future Clay and Hannah could have had:
Another theory is that it was all a clue from Taylor Swift — who made a sneaky cameo in the show and is BFFL with executive producer Selena Gomez — about her next album, Reputation, which drops today:
There’s also a third theory. The first episode of the series begins just over a week after Hannah’s suicide. We don’t know the exact date or timeline — there are some clues throughout the series — but by placing the deposition in November (after both Hannah’s suicide and the events of the series), it might mean Hannah would still have been alive at the time of the March 2017 premiere. Maybe even into the summer/fall.

Therefore, some believe Nov. 10 is a message to the audience: there’s still time to help the people in your own life who are struggling. It isn’t too late.
