If you think about it, the majority of what you wear can probably be classified as a wardrobe basic. That’s certainly the case for me. Most days you’ll find me in jeans and a T-shirt (with trendier accessories), so brands that make good basics are typically my favorite brands.
There are tons of brands out there that do basics, but not all are created equal. Some brands have really mastered the art of making great T-shirts, jeans, blazers, and button-downs (to name a few of the most common basics). And those brands tend to evolve from year to year.
In case you’re in need of a basics refresh, I’ve got you. I made a list of the best affordable (but still epic) and high-end (but worth the investment) basics brands on the market right now. Scroll to make some mental notes and shop some of their best pieces to wear over and over.
Reformation is far more than just pretty dresses. Their selection of denim, tees, sweaters, and more is next-level.
You’re probably aware of how great Agolde’s jeans are, but their tees are equally excellent and trend-forward.
There’s a reason new Skims drops always sell out—they’re that good (and easy on the wallet). I wear the Boyfriend T-Shirt, in particular, constantly.
It’s hard to not think about Everlane when you think about affordable basics brands. They’ve really cornered the market.
COS has been around for awhile but it’s really been nailing it lately. It’s a great source for “special” basics that will elevate your entire wardrobe.
No explanation needed with this one, right? I love Zara as much for basics as I do for its plethora of trendy pieces.
Did you know & Other Stories has an incredible denim selection? Now you do, along with all of the other epic basics they have at any given time.
My love for Toteme knows no bounds. It’s one of those brands that I never regret investing in because I always end up wearing its pieces over and over.
This celeb-loved brand is the coolest of cool-girl basics brands. Hailey Bieber even designed a collection with them recently.
Khaite is a brand that I will happily gush about any day of the week. Each of its pieces is both forward and timeless at once, and you wont regret investing in any one of them.
Vince is a brand that has you covered head to toe. It always has the most sophisticated takes on current trends and when wearing it, you’ll always look cool and put-together without trying too hard.
Aside from having some of the best blazers in the game, Anine Bing does everything well. It’s been around longer than many of the brands on this list and it’s still as coveted as ever—proof that your money will be well spent.
Frame is one of those brands that started as a denim brand and then became so much more (but their jeans are still pretty great too).
The categories that Wolford covers may be more limited than some of the brands on this list, but if you’re looking for bodysuits, tops, tights, and socks, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Next up, 11 under-$150 basics that would make the ideal travel capsule wardrobe.
