It’s hard to believe a conservative star like Nick Searcy continues to work in Hollywood.
He’s surprised, too.
Searcy knows firsthand the discrimination right-leaning artists face in the industry. He was part of the Friends of Abe organization, which let conservative talent gather to network, bond and commiserate about having to keep their political views silent.
Or else.
The actor/producer, who recently gave us “The War on Truth,” shares all in his new memoir “Justify This: A Career Without Compromise.”

Searcy spoke with The Daily Wire’s Andrew Klavan about the book, the projects he still hopes to make and how he’s been able to keep working in an industry that loathes his point of view.
The actor told Klavan some Hollywood creatives still value talent over political views. Take Graham Yost, the prolific TV producer who teamed with Searcy for the beloved FX series “Justified.” Yost contributed a forward to “Justify This” and remains on good terms with the star.
The biggest shock came when Searcy described how he parted ways with an unnamed agent.
The two noted how Friends of Abe disbanded and no new group has taken its place. Klavan, who recalled how Hollywood blacklisted him when he shared his conservative views, asked how Searcy’s politics have impacted his career.
“The most egregious example of it for me is that basically I came to think that I was being blacklisted by my own agent,” the actor told Klavan.
The trouble started during the pandemic. The agent, who Searcy refers to as “Dan,” told him to get vaccinated or else he won’t get new gigs.
“It’s nobody’s business whether I get vaccinated or not. That shouldn’t even be a question that should be asked of somebody, and I’m not gonna answer that question,” Searcy said.
That led to a broader discussion of Searcy’s work, including his 2021 documentary “Capitol Punishment.” The film detailed the shocking treatment of those who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“He said, ‘I’m not gonna watch that,’” he recalled. “You’re not gonna watch a movie that your client made? He said, ‘That was an insurrection, full stop, and I’m not gonna watch that propaganda.’”
“I guess you’re fired, then,” Searcy said as Klavan laughed. “I’m not gonna have an agent who isn’t gonna watch what I do.”
The actor then struck a more sobering note.
“After that discussion, I thought, so how long has he been telling people Nick’s a right-wing nut? I don’t know. I don’t have any idea,” he said.
This wasn’t an isolated incident.
“You’re not the first person I’ve heard that story from, people whose agents have been wrong-footing them and stifling them,” Klavan said.
Later, Searcy recalled a chilling moment that underscored how precarious it is to be right-leaning in Hollywood.
A 2019 Trump fundraiser in Beverly Hills snagged the attention of “Will & Grace” alum Debra Messing and Eric McCormack. The duo shared messages on social media demanding the donors list be made public.
Why? So they could avoid working with them in the future. Even far-Left “View” hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg cried foul.
“They think they’re the good guys,” Searcy said. “They think they have a monopoly on virtue.”
