Move over, Taylor Swift. “The Chosen” will be hitting a theater near you soon.
The series about the life and times of Jesus Christ (Jonathan Roumie) became a sensation in its first season. Since then, the show made the leap to the big screen with impressive results and drawn admiration from both Christians and secular critics.
Now, as theaters struggle to maintain their grip on pop culture, “The Chosen” is making the movie to theaters official.
The show’s fourth season will debut exclusively in movie houses starting in February, to be followed by a streaming release on The Chosen TV and mobile apps, broadcast and cable TV.
Fathom Events will bring “The Chosen” season 4 exclusively to theaters with a two-week run of Episodes 1-3 on February 1, 2024. That will be followed by Episodes 4-6 in theaters beginning February 15, and Episodes 7-8 beginning February 29 in the U.S. and Canada.
The show’s third season showcased its first and final episodes in theaters. That worked out so well “The Chosen” opted to expand its theatrical reach.
“Every time we’ve dipped our toes in the theatrical waters, viewers have overwhelmingly told us they want more. After seeing the Season 4 episodes, we knew we’d be doing our fans a disservice if we denied them the chance to see them all on a big screen with others they can laugh and cry with,” said “The Chosen’s” creator and director, Dallas Jenkins, in a press statement.

Here’s your official Season 4 tease:
Clashing kingdoms. Rival rulers. The enemies of Jesus close in while His followers struggle to keep up, leaving Him to carry the burden alone. Season 4 promises to deliver where last season’s emotional walking on water finale left off.
“The Chosen” began with the biggest TV crowdfunding effort in history. The show’s success helped establish Angel Studios as a major entertainment player and showed audiences are hungry for quality, faith-based programming.
The company, which streams “The Chosen” on its app, made the move to the theatrical model official this year with “His Only Son.” Angel Studios’ second film, “Sound of Freedom,” became the year’s biggest independent film smash with more than $180 million at the U.S. box office.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this story included incorrect information about the connection between “The Chosen” and Angel Studios.
Angel Studios is a licensee and includes The Chosen on their app. The Chosen utilized Angel’s services to help raise investment funding for the first season and granted Angel exclusive rights to act as The Chosen’s distributor through November 2022….In October of 2022, the parties entered into a more traditional license relationship that allowed Angel to stream The Chosen on their app platform but no longer act as studio partner including distributing The Chosen to other entities.
