The Best (and Very Worst) Celeb Reactions to Trump Shooting

Tim Robbins once personified the Hollywood Left.

The “Bull Durham” star was everywhere during President George W. Bush’s presidency, decrying the Iraq War and attacks on free speech.

Robbins even got “canceled” by baseball’s Hall of Fame during one particular snit.

He hasn’t been as active, or vocal, in recent years. He changed that at the tail end of the pandemic, speaking out against vaccine mandates and the hyper-political climate that turned American against American.

That wisdom, regardless of political party, reared up at the best time over the weekend.

Robbins’ comments regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump struck the perfect tone. The actor doesn’t agree with Trump’s politics or blustery brand.

That doesn’t matter when lives are at stake.

Most celebrities have stayed quiet rather than share any compassion for Trump following the assassination attempt. A few, like Stephen King, doubled down on their gun control narratives, avoiding messages of peace and/or unity.

And then there’s Tenacious D.

The farcical rock band – actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass – brought up the shooting during a Sydney concert Sunday.

The now-viral clip shows Black handing Gass a birthday cake (he turned 64) and asking him to make a wish.

“Don’t miss Trump next time,” referencing the would-be assassin who shot at Trump during a Butler, Pa. rally July 13. A bullet grazed Trump’s ear but he wasn’t seriously hurt.

Black’s response? “Thank you.”

Black appeared at a lavish fundraiser for President Joe Biden earlier this year.

The comments hardly come as a shock.

Celebrities have been conjuring Trump’s death for some time, in between alleging he’s the next Hitler. Kathy Griffin’s blooded Trump head visual nearly wrecked her D-list career. Johnny Depp backpedaled after suggesting it was time for another actor to kill the president, summoning the spirit of John Wilkes Booth.

Neither Black nor Gass will face any professional repercussions for their comments. Had they targeted President Biden, of course, they may have found more than a few gigs suddenly dry up.
