Spotify has addressed the Joe Rogan controversy.
Rogan has come under fire for spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and for his opinions on race.
“Obviously, it’s been a few notable days here at Spotify. When we entered the podcast space in 2019… we assumed it would challenge and test our teams in new ways, and there’s no doubt that the last several weeks have presented a number of learning opportunities,” Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said.
“Usually, when we have had controversies in the past [the effect is measured] over months not days,’ he said.
Ek said Spotify would be “publishing its policies and making them clear to the world” adding that he should have already done it. “That’s on me,” he said adding that Rogan will have to abide by the guidelines.
In a video, Rogan apologized to Spotify for the mess.
“I would like to talk to some people who have differing opinions on the podcasts in the future. I do all the scheduling myself and I don’t always get it right.”
