Sarah Hyland Talks Astrology, Beauty Faves, and Sharing Products With Her Fiancé

It’s totally understandable if you’ve ever bought a beauty or wellness supplement with the intention of taking one every day but either forget, get freaked out by its gargantuan size, or don’t like its gross taste. We’ve all been there. That’s why Sarah Hyland’s new business venture, Sourse, almost seems too good to be true. Supplements that taste like delicious M&M’s? Sign me up.

The vitamin-infused vegan candy brand was technically launched in 2020 by couple Jenne Moore and Andrew Remlinger, but they rebranded the company this year. That meant a makeover for its packaging, two new products, and bringing on Hyland as co-founder and creative director. “They sent me some products last year, and I loved it,” Hyland tells me at the Sourse launch party in Los Angeles. “I told them that I had a lot of ideas and wanted to be a part of it, so we kind of just came together.”

Read on to learn about the most surprising thing Hyland keeps in her bathroom cabinet, the products her fiancé, Wells Adams, likes to borrow, and what she does to chill out. (Hint: It has to do with tarot.)

What was one of your earliest beauty memories?

I remember being mad at my mom for not putting enough makeup on me when I was Princess Jasmine for Halloween. I also remember being mad at my mom [laughs] for not putting any makeup on me when I was Megara [from Hercules] for Halloween. My cousins were ghosts that year, and they had dead face makeup, and I just immediately saw that as makeup. I said to my mom, “Do my makeup like that,” and she was like, “They’re dead,” and I was like, “Well, I’ll be dead Megara.” So I was dead Megara when I was 9 years old because it meant that I got to wear more makeup.

So you’ve always been into makeup. What are some of your go-to makeup products right now?

I really love Ilia. The Limitless Lash Lengthening Mascara ($28) is really amazing. I also love Merit. I’m not a makeup artist, and even though I like makeup, I am not good at doing it. Merit makes it easy—they make these complexion stickswhere it’s like brush, brush, blend and then you go!

How about skincare?

I love Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover Face Wipes ($5). I’ve always used them. But I’m also in the middle of trying different things, like a new system.

Okay, so you’re in a transition phase.

Right, but I also love Nurse Jamie’s beauty tool—the UpLift Facial Massaging Beauty Roller ($69). That’s amazing, and I use a gua sha tool as well.

Do you have any other beauty go-tos besides the Neutrogena wipes? For me, I always go back to the Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker.

Oh, dude, that shit was the best. Yes, I always go back to Aquaphor Healing Ointment ($10). It’s just easy. It’s good. It’s also really cute for creating a glossy lid. It stays. I think another good staple is also a spoolie brush. Always have a spoolie on you.

Oh, for your amazing brows. You mentioned Aquaphor. Have you tried slugging? It’s a TikTok trend where they seal in moisturizer with Aquaphor or Vaseline.

What are the teenagers doing nowadays? [laughs]

Is there anything surprising that we’d find in your bathroom cabinet?

Laxatives? I don’t know. Everyone gets constipated once in a while.

Ha ha, yes, especially during the pandemic. Lots of stress.

Girl, a lot of cheese!

What about your hair? It’s naturally curly, right?

Yes, its curly. Ive been relying on the Sourse Beauty Bites ($34) a lot because they have a ton of biotin. It’s really great for strengthening your hair, and it has also helped me with hair growth. I always diffuse my hair and use a good gel. People are scared of gel, but if you find a good one, the result won’t be crunchy!

Does your fiancé, Wells Adams, ever steal any of your products? Do you do any face masks together or anything like that?

Yeah! I have started to double up on my eye patches because he wears them every morning as well. We normally use the FlashPatches ($25) by Patchology or the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hydra-Gel Eye Patches ($55)and we keep them in the fridge.

Lastly, what do you do to de-stress and chill out?

First, I take Sourse’s Mood Bites ($34). It really helps calm you down, and they also have vitamin D3 and saffron, which are mood boosters, so they’re really wonderful. Saffron has some great benefits for the body. So I do that, then I light some palo santo or incense. I normally just lay in a circle of candles in the dark with my tarot cards and get witchy.

I always love to know when someone’s into tarot and all that. Are you into astrology as well? What’s your sign?

Yeah, I’m into all of that. I’m a Sagittarius sun with a Scorpio rising.

I’m a Libra with a Scorpio rising. That makes sense that you’re into tarot and everything.

Yes, we love witchcraft and murder. [laughs]
