Nelly shared why he crossed the Verzuz stage this week to give his ex-girlfriend Ashanti a hug while Ja Rule was performing.
Fans thought that Nelly might have been trying to win his ex of ten years back, but he said he wasn’t.
“I said what up to everybody, bro. I said what up to everybody. I didn’t want no uncomfortable feelings. Nothing like that. I just said what up,” he said.

Nelly recently split from longtime girlfriend Shantel Jackson. It was Shantel herself that ended all doubt about the end of her relationship.
The 37-year-old actress broke the news Saturday in the comments section of her latest Instagram post. After one user asked her if the couple was still together, Jackson confirmed the two had separated.
“No we’re not ….. Just friends,” she wrote.
Shantel did not say why they are no longer together and Nelly has not shared the reason for their breakup.
