My 63-Year-Old Mom and I Made a Summer Shopping List—We Agreed on These Trends

My mom and I talk about fashion and shopping a lot. She’s into clothes and is always interested in learning about the latest in style given my role as an editor. It’s also to note that despite our age difference (I’m 34 and she’s 63), we tend to like similar items and trends that are in line with our wardrobes made up of modern classics. Although, it’s really not surprising that we gravitate towards similar pieces given that your age really has nothing to do with what you should or shouldn’t wear.

On one of her recent visits, I showed her a few outfit ideas and spring and summer trends I love and plan on recommending across my stories. My mom then mentioned the trends she liked best from my list. In the end, there were five summer trends that we both agree are cool, chic, and easy.

Below you’ll uncover the summer trends that get a yes from us, complete with visual and shopping inspiration.

My mom loves a good flat, and has been thrilled to see the return of the ballet flat. So have I, FYI. This season, she’s excited to try a pair of trendy metallic shoes for something fun.

My mom always says that jewelry is the simplest way to take an outfit to the next level. She adores beautiful earrings, and is here for the bold, drop earring trend that the fashion crowd is gravitating towards.

The full-skirt trend is back and dominating. I love the elegance of the look, and my mom couldn’t agree more.

In terms of trend-forward basics, it’s all about an easy striped shirt for both of us. Whether a long-sleeve style or a short-sleeve pick, that perfect striped shirt is about as versatile as it gets.

For that color moment, my mom still loves those pretty pink separates. You know, the whole Barbiecore vibe.
