Moda Operandi’s Co-Founder Told Me 3 Holiday Fashion Trends That Will Be Major

While parties have looked different in the past few years throughout the pandemic, they’re back in full swing this holiday season, and designers are delivering on the fashion front. From crystal- and pearl-embellished party shoes to velvet micro minidresses, holiday-party shopping is stunning this season. One of the most exciting new developments for your holiday wardrobe is Moda Operandi’s Club Moda capsule collection—which includes exclusive designs from cult brands such as Khaite, Des_Phemmes, LaQuan Smith, and Del Core—that will define what party dressing looks like this year.

This season’s festive dress code? Cool-girl energy that taps into Y2K nostalgia, skin-baring elements, and pieces that are over-the-top in the best possible way, according to Moda Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo. “It’s pure fantasy fun and captures all the energy and excitement of going out,” she explains. Curious to hear more about the capsule collection and the exact trends we can expect to see on the event circuit, I spoke with Santo Domingo for her take on what partygoers will be wearing and her advice for being the best dressed at a party, which includes “knowing your who, what, and wear.”

What is the biggest holiday fashion trend you’re predicting will be big this season? A little (or a lot of) skin goes a long way. … It’s generally about going extra, whether hotfix crystals or 3D embellishment, unapologetically sheer fabrics, and clickbait accessories.

Another key trend to know? We’ve been cooped up for so long. Why not go a little OTT? Carpe diem dressing for the club!

What defines party dressing in 2022? Taking the Y2K trend and making it your own. There’s a whole generation that watched Lindsay, Britney, and Paris go out in the early 2000s, and right now, that energy is what we all need.

What is your number one buy from the capsule collection, and how would you style it? For me—and let’s just say my best clubbing days are behind me—Khaite’s Carina Sequin Maxi Dress is a great investment piece. I’d wear it with one of my husband’s tuxedo jackets draped over the shoulders and vintage Bulgari silver.

Breakout brand to know for the holiday season? Des_Phemmes is a Moda favorite. We discovered the brand about a year ago, launched it exclusively, and have never looked back. Designer Salvo Rizza has checked all the boxes: feathers, shine, and super-short hemlines.
