Jimmy Kimmel went AWOL during the Woke Wars.
The “Man Show” alum had a nightly platform during those awful years. “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” allowed him to weigh in on breaking news as he saw fit.
Instead, Kimmel used his perch to chase Republicans far, far away.
“Not good riddance, but riddance,” as he famously said about right-leaning viewers.

It wasn’t just about politics.
He had a ringside seat as fellow comedians got punished for telling the “wrong” jokes, authors got canceled for lacking the “correct” backgrounds and books were sent down the memory hole.
He had the cultural clout, the industry connections and Hollywood’s collective goodwill on his side. And he didn’t lift a finger to defend comedy or free speech.
He wasn’t alone, of course. His silence still mattered.
Now, Kimmel tells the far-Left Rolling Stone that his fellow liberals were to blame for the woke attacks on comedy. And, as he tells it, they didn’t even mean it.
“I think a lot of the outrage [from the Left] is completely manufactured, and it’s like, a lot of these people who are angry aren’t really angry,” Kimmel said. “I think these liberals who’ve done such a good job of viciously attacking comedians are a big part of the reason why Trump is the president right now.”
Later, he defends comedians against Cancel Culture.
“There’s no black and white when it comes to comedy. There is no line. The line is different for every person. Dave Chappelle can say things that somebody else might not be able to. I don’t think anybody should be canceled. I really don’t. I’m not the kind of person who will cut someone out of my life just because we don’t believe the same thing.”
We could have used his voice … five years ago. So why is he speaking up now?
Two reasons.
One? He understands that Americans are exhausted by the Left’s stranglehold on culture and see Trump as an antidote. The President quickly acted on those impulses, declaring war on DEI policies.
That matters to Kimmel, a cartoonishly partisan soul. Remember how he covered up President Joe Biden’s dementia-like state during the 2024 election cycle?
Two? He sees the writing on the pop culture wall.
The woke scourge is in retreat. Comedy roasts have made a stunning comeback in recent months. Rebel comics, the polar opposite of Kimmel, dominate clubs, streaming platforms and YouTube.
Tim Dillon just dropped his second Netflix special on the streaming giant.
Disney removed select warning labels from its signature streaming platform. Canceled stars like Johnny Depp are making high-profile comebacks.
The anti-woke documentary “Am I Racist?” not only gained a wide theatrical release but crushed the competition.
Kimmel isn’t stupid.
He wants to appear as if he was on the side of free speech all along. He wasn’t.
When we look back at this moral panic years from now, he’ll be seen as one of the “useful idiots,” at best.
