Insert Flame Emoji: Here Are the 5 Buzziest Swimwear Trends for 2022

If ever there was a swimwear season for travel restrictions to be reduced and our suitcases to reflect the excitement, it is this year—2022’s swimwear trends are ready to go. I am a self-confessed swimwear obsessive and after over a decade as a buying director for my own swimwear business, I’m always on the lookout for the next big designers and trends. I’m always asked why I love swimwear so much, and to be honest it just kind of happened. I have so many beautiful memories of dreamy summers spent on the beach with my family in Puglia growing up so for me swimwear is synonymous with being happy and having fun—I always felt my most confident in the sun and that was mostly down to the swimwear I picked up on shopping trips with my mother. Then there’s the fact a bikini or swimsuit can have a longer life than many other fashion purchases—in fact, most swimwear styles rarely date and if you buy well, you will hold onto pieces for years to come.

But how to know which styles will actually suit your body shape? Well, that takes a little practice with trying on different styles to see what suits your own body. If you’re a swimwear rookie sometimes the best way is to order a selection of styles to try on at home and see what works and what you feel most comfortable in. There are many beautiful designs that standout on the page but may not all actually translate into being flattering, comfortable or practical—this is what ultimately sets one swimwear buyer apart from another.

For 2022’s swimwear trends discreet need not apply. If you’re lucky enough to get away this year then summer 2022 is all about getting dressed up for the beach. Minimalism has no place here. Even the most streamlined of swimsuits have delicate cut-out details, wrap-around straps or standout 3D corsages. These swimwear trends are so fabulous they really speak for themselves so here are my 5 top swimwear trends for 2022. I hope you enjoy wearing them as much as you like reading this too!

Seventies-inspired halterneck swimsuits with flower cut-out details are having a moment and will add a touch of instant glamour to your beach look.

This is by far my favorite high street version of this trend.

French designer Jacquemeus has been leading the return of 90’s minimalism. This is one of the most sought after swimsuits of the summer.

British label Hunza G has added this aptly named Ursula (the Bond girl FYI) swimsuit to their offering. If you’re looking for support whilst wanting to buy into this trend this style will tick both boxes.

Spaghetti straps aren’t for everyone. The endless iterations of this trend are the best thing about it.

Italian label Amazuìn is fast becoming a cult fave amongst the influencer crowd. This style is already a regular fixture on the grid for monochrome lovers.

Louisa Ballou is a favourite amongst A-listers from Bella Hadid to the Kardashians. Pair with the matching skirt, dress or sarong to create this season’s matchy matchy beach vibe.

Magda Butrym’s debut swimwear collection has fast become a favorite for influencers with her jumbo corsages.

If Magda is a little out of your price range Zara has cleverly tapped into this trend with high-waisted bikinis and slick one-shoulder swimsuits on offer.

Solid colours work best for this trend. Look for hues such as white, black, pink or red.

Zebra print is back for 2022.

Wrap-around bikinis don’t have to be super sexy and high cut. Matteau’s paired back aesthetic works perfectly with this style and creates a super chic and grown up look.

Hints of seventies details can be found across the swimwear category this season. Again, showing how versatile each trend can be.

Sometimes swimwear just needs to be fun, colourful and full of sass!

I love finding unique bikinis that you’re unlikely to see anyone else wearing. I was instantly drawn to the fun colourful beading on this bikini. It’s these little details that set each style apart.

This high-cut pant will length your legs and also balance our wider ups to draw the eye to your waist.

Choose a lurex fabric to counterbalance the simple design. Oserée nails it every time.

The more embellished the detail the better. Anything goes!

The high-leg V-pant is a nod to some of the most iconic swimwear references from the nineties – and also one of the most flattering bikinis I’ve ever tried.

Whilst the ’90s pant is a pretty simple cut, feel free to have fun with choosing your bikini top to match. This gathered style is great for smaller and larger busts alike.

Sian Swimwear is the go-to for sexy minimalist swimwear and was one of the first to bring back this handkerchief style.

The plisse fabric adds polish to this vibrant print.

Metallic fabrics and finishes are showing no sign of disappearing any time soon. this halterneck style would look fab with a pair of high-waisted trousers on holiday too.
