I’m Convinced These H&M Basics Make Every Outfit Look More Elevated

All hail H&M. Honestly, as a fashion editor, I look at a lot of new-in products every day across high-street and luxury fashion. And after all these years, the affordable hero still manages to pull it out of the bag with some of my favourite wardrobe pieces each season. The H&M design team just seems to know exactly what I want to wear, which right now is elevated capsule pieces that make me look like I have a much bigger budget than I actually do. And the latest new-in drop serves exactly that purpose.

It’s full of simple, minimalist wardrobe basics with a stylish twist. Think chic knitwear, ribbed tops with modern sweetheart necklines and expensive-looking tailoring with just the right amount of designer slouch, all in a palette of creams, navy, greys and neutrals. Not to mention, so many of the best pieces come in under £40.

Of course, if you’re looking for wardrobe staples like these with more longevity and premium fabrics and you’re in a position to invest more, it’s always worth doing so. But as we’ll soon be heading into autumn, if you’re looking for some affordable pieces to easily transition your existing wardrobe, I really recommend scrolling down to see this affordable edit. My one piece of advice? Don’t hang around on the pieces you fall for. We all know how fast a cult H&M piece can sell out.

I just know this is going to sell out soon. Add a trench coat and jeans, and go.

Just add a blazer and strappy heels.

Wear with a denim maxi skirt and loafers

It’s all about the double pockets for me.

A staple in absolutely everyone’s forever wardrobe.

These are as comfy as they look.

Yes, I need the matching top too.

Effortlessly chic.

I know these are £5 over budget, but they’re juts too good not to include.

Just look at this silhouette…

Because we all know a striped knit will never fail.

Simple yet so effective.

I love this simple bandeau dressed up with a mini and mules for a night out.

A square neckline top always looks chic with trousers.

Add to wide-leg trousers and a shirt look.

I would place bets on this knit top selling out within a few days.

For £16, you’ll no doubt want all four colours.

This looks so expensive.

Navy blue knits always look so premium.

I’m also a huge fan of this dark blue striped shirt. How would I wear it? I would keep it classic with jeans or wide-leg trousers.

You can always count on a double breasted blazer to make you look—and feel—instantly put-together.

All hail the stretch-waist trouser!

Can you believe it’s nearly boot season? Luckily this pair is making me want to wear them.

It’s all about pulling in some of those rich, autumnal colours.
