I’m an F1-Obsessed Fashion Editor—Here’s Everything I Wore to the Miami GP

If you follow me on, well, any social media platform, you’re probably on the brink of sick of me after the content explosion that erupted during the Miami Grand Prix. Though I’ve been to a race before, I wasn’t prepared for everything that the first of three American Formula One races this season had in store for me when I touched down in Miami last Thursday to attend the weekend with Puma, F1’s new exclusive licensing partner and retailer. From the garage tours and on-track action to the celebrities—yes, I did attend a poolside Jonas Brothers concert—and fashion parties, there’s simply nothing quite like Miami during race week, especially for an F1 super fan like me.

Of course, before I even landed in Miami, I had to pick out my outfits for the weekend ahead, a task I took very seriously given my self-appointed position as fashion’s most F1-obsessed editor. From night-out minidresses to race-day linen sets, scroll down to see everything that not only made it into my carry-on (after sitting on it twice), but onto the race track too.

Call it excitement or the fact that we attended a press conference for Puma and Formula One, but I chose to wear my most dressed-up outfit on the first day of our trip. It was a sunny and sweltering 86º degrees, making it perfect for this strapless top–and–skirt set I just got from Reformation. The linen is super lightweight and breathable and the lack of straps made tan lines a thing of the past. Heels might seem a bit extra for a race track, but these satin mules from By Far are practically walking shoes at this point. Not only do I wear them all around NYC with no problem, I packed them as my only walking shoes for a week-long trip to Zurich and Berlin. Plus, I had to go with closed toe shoes since we were in the F1 garages and they don’t allow sandals of any kind.

Wearing: Khaite dress; Prada Re-Edition 1995 Brushed-Leather Medium Handbag ($3700); Khaite mules

After a fair bit of traffic getting out of the track, we headed back to the Arlo hotel in Wynwood for a quick outfit change. I got this gold minidress from Khaite at a sample sale in the fall and haven’t yet had a chance to wear it, so I was all too excited to finally debut it. I threw back on my By Far heels—no pain even after more than 15,000 steps—and my go-to Prada 1995 Re-Edition bag before heading out to the Miami Design District for in-store events celebrating Loro Piana, Berluti and Alpine F1 team, and +44, Lewis Hamilton’s clothing brand. From there, we headed to Sexy Fish for Puma’s media dinner and then to Puma’s Miami Grand Prix celebration.

Wearing: Haus Label V-Neck Bodysuit ($198); Aya Muse skirt; By Far mules; Prada Supernova Medium Leather Top Handle Bag ($4100)

I got up early the next morning to head back to the track to tour Alfa Romeo’s garage, something I never thought I’d ever be able to say. (It was incredible.) Since my favorite team, Scuderia Ferrari, is famously Italian, I dressed in the country’s three colors—red, green, and white—in a Haus Label bodysuit, a rib-knit midi skirt from Aya Muse that ties up one side, and a green Prada Supernova bag. Again, my By Far heels were an obvious choice.  This bodysuit, which is made of swimsuit-like material, was the perfect choice for day two as there wasn’t a cloud in sight and our Grandstand seats, where we spent much of the day, were directly in the sun. Really, the only packing mistake I made all day was not bringing along sunscreen for reapplication, something I certainly didn’t forget the next day.

Wearing: Zara Tied Halter Top ($28) and Wide-Leg Pants ($36); Adidas Samba Classic Shoes ($75); Prada Supernova Medium Leather Top Handle Bag ($4100)

After two days in heels, day three saw me finally swap them in for a more practical pair of sneakers, my go-to Adidas Sambas. I paired them with this easy-chic halter top and linen pant set that I just got from Zara, which ended up being the perfect pick for the day as it was comfortable and lightweight but also elevated. Again, my green Prada bag came with me, packed with an extra water bottle and lots of SPF. Hint: Don’t risk bringing in a purse larger than the bag allowance. I was luckily able to convince security to let me enter the track with it, but I could have just as easily been sent all the way back to my hotel to find something smaller or made of clear plastic.

Blue teams are a dime a dozen in Formula One, making this pair of Mediterranean-blue, linen trousers a perfect choice if you decide to root for any of them.

Many of the races on the F1 calendar take place in extremely hot climates—Miami included—so a billowy, poplin shirt will always be a safe bet.

From the makers of my swimsuit-esque bodysuit comes this incredible micro miniskirt that is equally sweat-wicking and comfortable for hot days in the sun. Plus, it’s really cute.

I’m a sucker for a good pair of tube socks, what can I say?

I’m prepared to make these the next It sneakers. Who’s with me?

Literally, this is the perfect slouchy pair of jeans. Now, don’t forget to pair it with something in your team colors.

The Pacsun x Formula One merch is too good to miss out on—price included.

I have this tee in every basic color, but this bright-blue shade is by far my favorite. If you’re an Alpine or Williams fan, I think you’ll agree.

I have these in three colors and low-key, they’re the nicest socks I’ve ever put on.

You never know when it’s about to be a wet race. Come prepared to the track with these waterproof Birks.

Yes, Abercrombie did make F1 merch. And yes, it is quite good.

Duh.

McLaren fans, I just found the perfect dress for you.

No, but actually, this is the best tank top on the market right now.

Casual and cute, this skirt was made for race day. But wait, should I buy it for my next race in Imola next week?

Alix Earle wore this Ferrari cap to the Miami Grand Prix and now I want it.

These already are 2023’s It sneaker.

Celebrity stylist and Puma creative director June Ambrose just partnered up with Scuderia Ferrari on the chicest womenswear collaboration the sport’s ever seen.
