I’m 23 and All of My Gen Z Friends Are Into These 5 2024 Trends

At 23, I find myself in the prime Gen Z bracket and although there are some assumptions about us out there that I can guarantee aren’t true—no, we’re not all hoping to become TikTok influencers!—one thing I can assure you is that when it comes to fashion, we’re always interested in testing out a new cult item, trend or core (Grandpacore, I’m looking at you).

Us Gen Z lot are all about finding our personal style, and an ever so slightly daring nature when it comes to clothes and aesthetics means we can (read: not always) be pretty easily influenced by what we see on social media. Its influencer culture, targeted algorithm ads and clever viral marketing techniques open a whole realm of fast-paced cool and fun micro trends. That’s not to say we aren’t concerned about sustainability and the longevity of fashion though, we’re happy to try new trends, but we will often shop them secondhand, scouring vintage stores and re-sell sites to find a gem.

Although January is about hibernating yourself away and catching up with friends, the downtime has also got me collaboratively thinking about some of my and my friends’ current favourite fashion 2024 trends. From our obsession with Coquette-core to mini cardigans and colourful Adidas trainers, we’ve started the year off with an abundance of bright and bashful styles.

So if you’re looking for an insight into a Gen Z brain and the fashion trends we’re currently loving, or perhaps my fellow so-called ‘zoomers’ are wanting a nosey at some of the styles I’ve been shopping myself this month (when’s payday again?), keep on scrolling.

Style Notes: Alright, we know you’ve heard all about UGGs for the last few seasons, but Gen Z are declaring that they’re here to stay for yet another season. Sara perfects the go-to winter outfit by pairing her UGGs with slim-leg jeans, a roll-neck jumper and a faux-fur coat.

The longer silhouette make me feel so nostalgic.

I’m loving the loafer-esque characteristics of Ugg’s new Tasman slipper.

You can’t go wrong with a classic mini boot.

They also come in this gorgeous sandy shade.

I’ve been seeing the platform styles everywhere this winter – perfect if you want some extra height too.

Style Notes: If you haven’t heard of the Coquette aesthetic yet, buckle up as it’s this season’s hottest trend. Sophie captures the girlycore style with a quilted jacket jazzed up with soft pink bow embellishments.

Whilst endlessly scrolling on ASOS, as I usually do, I stumbled across this pointelle-detailed gem. I’ve never added something to my bag so fast.

Bows, bows, bows – they’ve taken over this winter. This knit jumper gives party-in-the-back with its draped satin embellishment.

Speaking of bows, these understated stud earrings are an ideal way to subtly inject the coquette aesthetic into your outfit.

Watch this space, semi-sheer lace is having its revival. This lace shirt from H&M can easily be dressed up or down, depending on the event.

We obviously can’t talk about girlycore without mentioning ballet flats.

Style Notes: In the winter, a scarf is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit – try to convince me otherwise. Kit wears a gorgeous cobalt blue option with a leather bomber jacket and loafers.

Get spring-ready with this lime-hue green number.

There’s something about cobalt blue that’s calling my name at the minute.

Yes to this two-tone degradé design.

This knitted logo-intarsia scarf is set to make a statement – plus Ganni is Gen Z-approved brand.

I adore a chunky knit and this powder blue shade makes it even more desirable.

Style Notes: Channel preppy-chic attire with mini cardigans. Vivian wears her fine-knit cardigan opened, buttoned at the neck, and layered over a tank. If you don’t want to continue the preppy vibe, style with your favourite straight-leg jeans and a pair of sneakers.

This popular & Other Stories cardigan comes in six colours!

A simple black cardigan will never get old, a true closet staple.

This sell-out style has been flooding Gen Z Instagram feeds.

A chocolate shade is perfect for this time of year.

I’ve added this cosy cable-knit cardi to my wish list.

Style Notes: Adding colour to your footwear collection has become the norm and all thanks to Adidas. From sambas to gazelles, the brighter trainers the better. Amaka spotlights her green sambas with her neutral outfit of wide-leg trousers and a shearling coat.

I haven’t looked back since adding these Gazelles to my trainer collection, they go with every outfit.

10/10 for this colourway!

These chunky skate-style sneakers are one way to make a statement.

I’m a sucker for a gum sole, they’re a gamechanger.

If you want to wear a pop of colour in a minimalist way, these heritage Samba OGs are the answer.
