Welcome to The Great Try-On . With fall on the horizon, we seized the opportunity to try on some of the best fall pieces from some of your favorite brands, documenting the process along the way. We believe that the most foolproof way to shop online is to see an item IRL and to read candid reviews, so we hope that this leads you to some successful fall purchases.
If you’ve been to Urban Outfitters in-person or online lately, you’ll know that they’re coming with that heat. From cargo pants and stretchy knits to loafers and leather trench coats , they currently have a wide assortment of all the fall trends I’m interested in trying out expeditiously.
I was able to pick my favorite 12 pieces and try them on from the comfort of my home, and these 7 items are the ones I would buy immediately. You’ll see I found everything from a going-out dress , which I’ve already worn out, to my new staple pleated pants and a plush jacket that will serve me well as temperatures drop. I was able to style many of the pieces together, which I hope can get you excited about all the possibilities.
Keep scrolling to see my reviews of the items I tried and all my favorite pieces that you can currently find at Urban Outfitters. Without further ado, or as Doja Cat would say, let’s get into it yuh.
My review: The dress is a dream—I’ve already worn it to a wedding and on a date. The quality of the fabric has a beautiful sheen to it that looks far more expensive than it is and feels like it has lasting power. I also love how the top half of the dress has a baggy fit which transitions into a fitted skirt right at the waist. The length is definitely mini, balancing out the proportions of the baggy top. It’s a simple, timeless dress and I know I’ll be wearing it for years to come.
My review: I was immediately drawn to this grey ribbed top because of the retro vibes, which are super trendy right now. This top is made of a juicy, stretchy material and feels like a warm hug on the body. Unique details like the ’70s style exaggerated collar and wide cuffs make it stand out among the competition. I’m wearing it buttoned up, but you can also wear it unbuttoned like a cardigan . It also comes in a warm chocolatey brown, which you’ll want to check out.
My review: Since the beginning of the panny, I’ve collected my fair share of bralettes, and this one by Out From Under is by far my favorite. It’s made from a soft ribbed material that almost feels like you have nothing on! The material also has superpower stretch capabilities that provide lots of support for a busty girl like me. It looks great under oversized blazers and button-down shirts and comes in eight different colors. This is a staple bralette you’ll reach for every day, trust me.
My review: I recently wrote about my obsession with pleated pants this fall and this BDG pair every mark. These mid-rise chinos sit right at the waist and are spacious around the hips and thighs, which makes them almost as comfortable as sweats. The combination of this roomy fit and a partially elastic waistband creates a nice cinched waist and an hourglass shape that is super flattering. They also have spacious pockets made to actually use, which is always a plus.
My review: These jeans are made from a thick, rigid denim material that feels like it can outlast any adventure, skateboarding, a NY winter, or otherwise. They are made in a relaxed fit and hit at the perfect location, right below the ankle on my 5’5 frame. From personal experience, I can tell you the utilitarian pockets can fit more than some of my purses can, which I plan on utilizing to the fullest. Plus, the ginormous pockets look super cool.
My review: These ’90s-inspired straight-leg jeans are made in a washed chestnut brown that will pair beautifully with the khakis and tans I plan on wearing from now into the winter months. The rips along the thighs and bottom hems give them a genuinely vintage feel that will only get better as they naturally fray over time. They sit at the natural waist and fall just below the ankle, giving the illusion of longer legs—a superior fit if you ask me.
My review: This quilted jacket is perfect for LA winters—it falls somewhere between a puffer and a shacket (i.e. shirt jacket) to provide just enough warmth. The 100% cotton padding is soft and machine washable—a huge plus for me. Quilting and paisley are both trends to watch out for, and I love that this jacket has both. As you can see, although the jacket is printed, it looks quite neutral and easily pairs with other colors in the same family.
Cross the perfect leather jacket off your wishlist! It also comes in black. You’re welcome.
Pinstripes make this halter top look grown.
Finally, lug-sole boots in a practical shape.

This bag looks handmade.
Chunky cardigan season is my favorite season of all. Plus, the pattern goes all the way around how we like it.
A simple corset can do wonders to elevate an outfit.
This belt would look super cute over a skirt or even to cinch a loose-fitting dress.
The texture is giving.
Asymmetrical shapes make life a bit more fun.
This washed brown color is so gorgeous in person.
I dare you to find me one person who has these and isn’t obsessed. Pro tip: learn from me and order yours now before they sell out.
Why fuss with your cardigan when you can buy one that is permanently tucked in?
Love the pattern the knitting provides.
Just add a sweater on Monday, button-down on Tuesday, trench on Wednesday, etc.
