Welcome to The Great Beauty Try-On, where we seized the opportunity to test-drive the best-selling makeup products from some of your favorite beauty brands (plus some newcomers!) and documented the process along the way.
I’ve been a fan of Byredo for a long time. If you see me in a department store (or any one of the ultra-cool boutiques that carries the brand, for that matter), chances are I’m at the beauty counter stealing a spritz of divine-smelling Byredo perfume or sniffing my way through a row of its deliciously scented candles.
So when I got the opportunity to try the cult-favorite brand’s makeup line, you can bet I seized it. The collection’s minimalistic packaging mirrors Byredo’s iconic perfume bottles and makes you want to give each product prime real estate on your vanity. But it’s what’s in that packaging that really sold me. Whenever I’m buying something with a high price tag, I expect to see results. And fam, I was not disappointed. Want to see the products in action? Keep scrolling to see the look I put together with some of the best-selling items, including a jet-black mascara, creamy eye shadow, and a liquid eyeliner that has trumped all others that have come before it. Prepare yourselves for a very full online cart.
I started the look with Byredo’s Colour Stick, which is a creamy eye shadow, highlighter, and lip shade all in one. I popped the dewy, nude-brown shade on my eyes for a natural but elevated vibe and instantly became obsessed with the shimmer it gave my lids. While I only used it on my eyes and at the top of my cheekbones, you can really use the stick all over your face. And this isn’t the only color available—the stick ranges in shades from matte nude and pink to sparkly brown and green. (And I can attest they’re all perfection.)
I already have pretty bold brows, so I’m very particular when it comes to the pencils that I use. I like a brush that can create thin, wispy lines that look like my natural hair. This one did just that. And the best part? It’s refillable and comes with an additional pencil to pop in when you run out.
Next up on the agenda was my mascara. While I might be particular when it comes to brow pencils, I am annoyingly picky with mascaras. I usually know if I’m going to like it the moment I unscrew the top. In my opinion, waterproof formulas have a tendency to run a little on the drier side, but this one was just the opposite. It was easy to coat my lashes, and the buildable formula instantly transformed my look.
For my lips, I combined two of Byredo’s liquid lipsticks for an extra-juicy pout. I started with the shade Reasonable Doubt to add a bit of color and finished with a clear coat for an extra layer of shine.
As I was taking pictures in my finished look, I decided I was missing something. I’m not typically a liquid-eyeliner person (I usually opt for a subtler shadow wing), but something was drawing me to this. And whatever that force was, I’m thankful for it. This product made my look. For the rest of the day, the jet-black wing became my entire personality—I was acting differently. (Apologies to my husband for my attitude.) So the fact of the matter is if you want to feel like that girl, this is the eyeliner to wear. And these pictures prove it.
