I Just Got the Scoop on 6 Trends That Are Going to Be Big—Here’s the List

One of the perks of being a fashion editor is the chance to hear from the best of the best in the business. That means previews of upcoming collections with the creatives who designed them, interviews with industry veterans, and data on what retailers are buying for the upcoming seasons. One of the events I look forward to most each season is the Net-a-Porter trends presentation, where its season of buyers and editors dissect all of the fashion from the runways and share how it’s impacting the pieces that will be stocked on the site in the near future.

Recently, I tuned in as Net-a-Porter shared exactly which fall 2021 fashion trends the retailer is most excited about and buying into for the upcoming season. This is truly like looking into the future of where shopping is headed in the upcoming months, and all of the fashion insights are too good to keep to myself. Ahead, discover six fall fashion trends that will be huge, according to Net-a-Porter.

Over the last year, sportswear has become an even more prominent part of our wardrobes, and that isn’t slowing down, according to Net-a-Porter. Athleisure is now growing more than ever, with cool interpretations from brands such as Sporty & Rich, Staud x New Balance, and Zara.

Net-a-Poter saw that “designers presented optimistic, rejuvenating, and colorful collections,” reflecting a joyful attitude about getting dressing up again. This shift can be seen in energetic, colorful hues, short hemlines, and pieces intended to be worn out.

“Now and forever” pieces are one of Net-a-Porter’s key focuses for fall. Rather than a trend, it’s an approach to shopping rooted in timeless, seasonless pieces that is now a mainstay of the Net-a-Porter buying strategy.

Rich textures, bold prints, patchworking, and appliqué all came through in an artisanal way this season.

Over-the-top statement coats are a standout buy for fall at Net-a-Porter. The key silhouettes to look for? Sculptural trenches, puffer jackets, and bold, printed styles.

Practical, weather-specific styles, including Moon Boots and Wellingtons, are getting a fashion spin and will be the cult boots to own for fall.
