I Have Minimal Style, and I Tell Everyone to Try These “Boring” Trends

Jen Andrews-Cater’s IG feed is consistently filled with fantastic style inspiration that leans into her self-described minimalist aesthetic. On that note, we turn to her on the regular for tips and tricks for those of you who are into that same sort of vibe or simply want cool shopping recommendations.

Andrews-Cater recently shared that she often goes for “boring” trends when creating her simple yet chic outfits. But no, boring doesn’t mean unstylish. The trends in question are more subtle and less statement making but are versatile and highly wearable. In fact, she favors these trends so much that she often tells everyone she knows to test them out when they’re looking for style guidance.

“By now, we have all heard and embraced the term ‘coastal grandmother,’ but to me, linen drawstring trousers and summer have forever gone hand in hand. I have particularly been loving J.Crew’s version and have been wearing mine nonstop. I love an effortless, comfortable vibe, particularly in the warmer months, and since the new creative direction of Olympia Gayot, I’m really loving J.Crew’s linen pieces in general—very chic and reminiscent of the old ’90s days of J.Crew.”

“It sounds silly to say that Birkenstocks are a trend, but if you’ve been paying attention, the Birkenstock taupe suede clogs have been spotted on all of the fashion girls’ feet.”

“I always have a variety of denim styles in my wardrobe, but for the past couple of years, an oversize fit has become more and more popular with streetwear, and I like to mix mine up a bit. Sometimes for going out at night, I’ll do a very oversize blazer with them as well and a more fitted tank and kitten heels or just a simple tee or tank and kicks for during the day.”

“I’ve never met a stripe I didn’t like, and although it’s trendy now, it’s always Parisian and on-trend to wear this ‘boring’ trend.”

“You’d have to be hiding under a rock to not notice all of the waistcoat monochromatic pantsuits all of the influencers and celebs have been rocking, particularly in linen, this summer. When the warmer weather hit, it’s like we all replaced our matching blazers with waistcoats!”
